Helium community members disagree, criticizing Solana's instability and performance issues.
Some developers of Helium (HNT), a blockchain that powers a wireless internet network focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), have presented a proposal to the community to vote on the possibility of migrating their infrastructure to Solana.
The proposal, which is called HIP-70, explains that the migration to Solana aims to improve the operational efficiency of the network by giving HNT access to Solana tools, applications and features that, with more developers working on them, offer better performance.
La HIP-70 proposal seeks to implement three major changes:
- Move Proof of Coverage (PoC) to Oracles.
- Move data transfer accounting to Oracles.
- Migrate the Helium network and all its tokens to the Solana blockchain.
The developers explain in their proposal that the migration is necessary since the increase in the Helium use ha made it difficult to manage data flow and accounting, which is undermining the effectiveness of the network.
Migrate the PoC and data transfer to the Oracles of Solana will allow us to solve these problems and will make Helium more stable, offering better efficiency and scalability options.
The proposal also states that Migration to Solana It is suitable as it offers the type of Scalable architecture that Helium needs at this time to continue growing.
Helium developers have also explained that the conditions that led them to develop a layer 1 blockchain no longer exist. The crypto ecosystem has matured a lot in the last two years and the number of layer 1 options to build on has multiplied.
For now, the proposal does not have a marked roadmap in case it passes the vote, which will take place between September 12 and 18.
What does Helium gain by migrating to Solana?
The migration will make Helium part of one of the most active developer ecosystems in the sector, where it will be able to leverage its talent to improve the services it currently offers. In this way, Helium adoption is expected to grow in the coming years.
Helium will also be able to take advantage of the Solana open source library, which is one of the most extensive in the sector for implementing new functionalities and improving existing ones.
The proposal also explains that after the migration, the HNT token reward received by miners and node operators could increase by 6,85%.
Helium community criticizes the proposal
Some members of the Helium community They do not agree with the proposal from the developers and have criticized it on the company's official Discord channel.
For many, migration is a bad idea due to recent Solana malfunctions, power outages, and ecosystem wallet hacks.
Other Helium members have criticized the developers for not giving them any advice. involved in the selection layer 1 to which they are going to migrate, and have suggested that there were better options such as Cardano or Cosmos.
