Walmart customers can purchase physical products from the chain that exist in the Metaverse.
Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, wants to boost commerce through the Metaverse. This was revealed by Thomas Kang, vice president and general manager of metaverse commerce at Walmart’s innovation arm, during an interview with VentureBeat.
Kang said the chain is working on a project to create new ways to connect customers in the physical and virtual world.
One of the company's goals is to allow customers to purchase physical versions of store products that exist in the Metaverse and vice versa, the executive said.
With this, Walmart wants to revolutionize the retail sector by offering its customers new shopping experiences that allow them to interact with the brand and its products in an immersive and personalized way.
Walmart delves into the Metaverse to reinvent retail
According to Kang, Walmart is focusing on creating new ways to connect commerce in physical stores and in the virtual world, to reshape and reinvent retail in a way that is favorable and rewarding for all users.
The company will use its experience and position in the retail sector to attract customers to the innovation of the Metaverse, the executive stressed.
Through its new plans, Walmart aims to remake the retail shopping experience to offer customers the ability to explore, try on and buy various products, even if they are only available in virtual environments. This will allow users to recreate the same virtual scenarios in the real world.
Enable physical purchases in the virtual world
For example, Kang explained to VentureBeat that the chain's customers will be able to purchase House Flip's game items in physical versions without having to leave the virtual world. This means that, within the game, it will be possible to purchase a product or item, whether physical or virtual.
Walmart executive explained The company sees unlimited potential in the Metaverse that will be explored through different initiatives to meet all of its customers' needs, from having fun and interacting with their avatars, to shopping and other activities.
Walmart sees the Metaverse as an extension of its omnichannel ecosystem model, which integrates its physical stores, website, mobile app and home delivery services. This technological innovation will help Walmart build customer loyalty, differentiate itself from its competitors and also take advantage of new business opportunities that strengthen its growth, Kang said.
Walmart made its first official foray into the Metaverse last year, launching a series of immersive experiences in partnership with non-blockchain platform Roblox. Since then, the supermarket chain has continued to delve deeper into the virtual world and will continue to do so in the future to explore all its possibilities.
