Brave Browser has announced that it is working with ECC and Filecoin to add support for ZCash wallets and decentralized messaging natively to its web browser.

At the Messari Mainnet event held on September 22 in New York, Brave, Electric Coin Co. (ECC) and Filecoin Foundation announced that they are partnering to Bringing innovative new privacy features to the Brave Browser. More specifically, a native integration with the privacy coin ZCash, and the ability to generate a privacy and decentralized chat system through Filecoin and IPFS.

Thus, with the support of ECC, Brave Browser will integrate the Zcash protocol into the browser’s built-in crypto wallet so that users can securely store, send, and receive ZEC alongside other cryptocurrencies. The integration underscores Brave’s commitment to combining privacy, transparency, and user choice. With private transactions possible alongside public ones, users will have greater control over their activity on Web3.

Zooko Wilcox, CEO of Electric Coin Co, and developer of ZCash, commented:

I’m excited about Zcash integration in the Brave Browser because privacy should be normal. Brave Browser is a tool that tens of millions of people use for daily communication, web browsing, shopping, and other activities. This gives them access to money that respects their security and consent. I’m excited about this launch (and what’s to come) as a result of this partnership with Brave and the Filecoin Foundation.

For his part, Yan Zhu, CISO of Brave, adds that:

This partnership with like-minded organizations reinforces Brave Browser’s mission of a more private, user-centric Web. Not only do we hope to simplify the use of ZEC for private transactions, but we also aim to maximize privacy during key purchasing or trading moments.

A private and decentralized messaging function

At the same time, they also teased plans on stage to develop a new privacy-based feature in the browser. It will offer private messaging and media streaming via the Zcash protocol. The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), the technology underlying the Filecoin protocol, will play a crucial role in providing secure storage for encrypted content.

On this development, Marta Belcher, president of the Filecoin Foundation, adds that:

We are delighted to be part of this important project. We believe that cryptocurrencies can be the foundation for a better Internet – an alternative to Big Tech that gives people control over their own data, protects user privacy and security, and permanently preserves humanity’s most important information.

Brave Browser continues to aim for decentralization

With these new features, this browser continues to aim to offer a more pro-privacy and decentralized user experience than many of its counterparts. Based on the free Chromium engine, Brave has stood out for being the first Web browser with a secure ad blocker, native Web3 and IPFS integration, an advertising system and rewards for its users and content creators on the Internet using the BAT token.

While not everything is perfect, as Brave Browser has been in the spotlight for some awkward situations, such as the use of a referral system, the project has certainly managed to stand out and remain autonomous to a certain extent. Now, with the integration of Zcash into the Brave Browser Wallet, Brave will offer a number of unique advantages to its users, including:

  • Increased Privacy: Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP) privacy technology to hide transaction addresses and payment amounts. This makes it harder for third parties to trace users’ transactions.
  • Enhanced Security: Brave Browser Wallet is a self-custody wallet, meaning users have full control of their private keys. This helps protect users’ funds from cyberattacks.
  • Ease of Use: Brave Browser Wallet is an easy-to-use wallet that is integrated into the Brave browser. This makes it easier for users to get started with Zcash.

And with the upcoming arrival of the chat system, we could be looking at a great value proposition for those who care about the privacy of their online activity and interaction with browsers at all times.
