Seven of Polkadot's major projects have joined forces to create a set of ethical standards for using the blockchain.
A group of seven decentralized projects have come together to create the Polkadot Alliance, a decentralized governance project that aims to create a set of ethical standards for developers, projects and users of the DOT ecosystem, as well as to track potentially dangerous users and projects.
The Polkadot Alliance consists of seven of the ecosystem's leading protocols: Acala, Astar, Interlay, KILT Protocol, Moonbeam, Phala, and Subscale.
The idea of the alliance was first raised a few years ago as a way of lfight against misuse of the Polkadot ecosystem and the unattributed code.
As we have explained, the main objective will be to establish ethical standards for the blockchain community, avoiding scam activities, behaviors that are harmful to users, as well as offering work teams due recognition for their contributions to the growth of Polkadot.
In this way it is intended Raise the standards of quality and excellence of Polkadot, promoting the growth and development of new projects.
With the new proposal a new collective is introduced, called Fellowship, made up of experts and developers, who will offer their opinion on those proposals that are most sensitive and risky for the future of the ecosystem.
The alliance will publish its findings on malicious projects and users on the blockchain, although will have no real governing power. It is a purely ethical body.
Why was the Polkadot Alliance created?
As the Polkadot ecosystem has grown, projects and users have emerged that have sought to leverage the trademark to create malware, have copied other's code without attribution or have used the brand “Polkadot” without permission.
Therefore, it has become necessary to establish ethical codes for the correct use of open source, as well as a way to identify teams and developers who are misusing it.
At the same time, there is a need to create a framework that recognizes the teams that empower the development of the ecosystem and contribute to its evolution.
Who can join the Polkadot Alliance?
The alliance will be made up of companies, projects, parachains and collectives belonging to the DOT ecosystem. Membership will have two levels: Fellowship y Ally.
The first offers right to vote in the alliance motions and perform operations on the chain. This level requires a strong commitment, to comply with and enforce ethical standards. fellows They will also be responsible for managing membership as well as curating the list of malicious users.
The Ally are members of the alliance that They do not have the right to vote. To join you can deposit 1.000 DOT, which will be locked until you leave the alliance, or be nominated by a member with rank Fellowship.
