Meta receives support from the crypto community by implementing 'Community Notes'

Meta has announced a significant shift in its content moderation strategy, adopting X's 'Community Notes' system.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently announced that will end its third-party data verification program, which had been in place since 2016. This system was implemented with the aim of combating misinformation on its social media platforms, but has been subject to criticism for its lack of effectiveness. Zuckerberg has also eliminated its content restriction policies that often limited the visibility of certain content, especially controversial topics such as politics, gender identity and migration.

La Transition to 'Community Notes', the content moderation system implemented by X, represents a significant change in the company's strategy. This new system will allow users to flag potentially misleading posts and add context to them, which is considered a more democratic and less biased way of moderating content, both on Facebook and Instagram.

By eliminating third-party verification, Meta seeks to reduce the errors that have characterized the previous system and foster greater community participation in content management, as well as promoting freedom of expression, Zuckerberg explained.

The crypto community, known for its advocacy of decentralization, is supporting this measure as an important step towards more democratic and transparent management of content on social networks.

'Community Notes' will promote freedom of expression in Meta

Meta's decision to implement X's content moderation system is in line with the need to promote freedom of expression on social platforms.

Zuckerberg said that it is essential to give users back control over the conversations that take place on Facebook and Instagram, removing restrictions that he says have stifled legitimate voices and distorted public debate.

“We will allow more freedom of expression by lifting restrictions on some topics that are part of general discourse and focusing our enforcement on illegal and high-serious violations.”Zuckerberg commented.

With Community Notes, users will be able to actively contribute to the discussion and provide additional information on controversial topics, potentially enriching the dialogue and allowing for greater diversity of opinions.

The crypto community supports Meta's decision

The crypto community has reacted positively to this change in Meta's content moderation policies. So far, several leaders and influential figures within the crypto space have expressed their support for the implementation of 'Community Notes', considering this initiative to represent a significant step towards a more open and transparent ecosystem.

Anthony Pompliano, a prominent Bitcoin advocate, commented that «Once again, the voice of the people is finally heard», reflecting the widespread sentiment among cryptocurrency enthusiasts about the importance of maintaining spaces where freedom of expression is respected.

It is worth noting that this endorsement can also be seen as a response to the growing public interest in cryptocurrencies and their interaction with social platforms. As more people get involved in the crypto world, having spaces where these topics can be openly discussed without fear of censorship is essential. Meta's acceptance can further strengthen this relationship between social platforms and the crypto community.

According to Zuckerberg's initial plan, the Community Notes system will first be implemented in the United States. “These changes are an attempt to recommit to freedom of expression”, Zuckerberg concluded.
