This year, 61 cryptocurrency companies reached a valuation of more than $1.000 billion, becoming the new unicorns of the blockchain industry.
El report The Block Research’s 2022 Digital Asset Outlook indicates that the growth in funding and equity deals in the crypto industry led to 61 crypto companies becoming unicorns this year. This ranking is achieved by those companies that, without going public, exceed a valuation of $1.000 billion, the result of venture capital investment. According to The Block Research report, among the crypto companies that reached this valuation during this year are: FTX, Alchemy, TaxBit, and Dune Analytics.

The report explains that cryptocurrency companies focused on decentralized finance protocols (DeFi), NFTs, Metaverses and Gaming are currently the ones that attract the interest of investors, receiving the largest amount of funds invested in companies in the crypto industry this 2021.

DeFi, NFT and Gaming, investment trends
Many of the companies that reached a valuation of $1.000 billion, to become companies with unicorn status, are related to DeFi, NFTs and the gaming industry. This year, decentralized finance protocols have grown in interest and adoption, maturing as an alternative decentralized financial ecosystem. Currently, DeFi exceeds $XNUMX billion in value. 248.390 million in liquidity, known as Total Value Locked or TVL.
On the other hand, non-fungible tokens, blockchain games, and metaverses have become so popular that they keep millions of users around the world connected to different platforms day after day. Among the most popular blockchain games and metaverses in the crypto industry are: Axie Infinity, The Sandbox, Decentreland, Somnium Space, Splinterlands, and Alien Worlds. These NFT and metaverse projects bring together more than 3 million active users per month and have celebrated sales of more than $1.160 billion in the last 30 days, according to data by DappRadar.
$25.000 billion invested
In its Digital Asset Outlook report, The Block Research also notes that crypto investors and venture capital firms have invested nearly $25.000 billion in crypto-related companies this year. This year’s figures reveal an 2021% increase in investments, compared to the $800 billion invested during the whole of 3.100.

So far this year, nearly 1.700 investment and financing agreements have been signed, highlighting the interest of capital and investment firms in the buoyant world of cryptocurrencies and digital assets.
