The Ethereum Foundation has boosted blockchain development and innovation with $8,5 million allocated to nearly XNUMX cryptocurrency projects through grants in the second quarter.
The project grants were awarded through the Ethereum Foundation Ecosystem Support Program (EFESP), which is focused on providing support, both financial and non-financial, to projects and initiatives that are part of this important blockchain ecosystem.
Let us remember that Ethereum, in addition to being the second most capitalized cryptocurrency on the market, is positioned as the leading blockchain par excellence for smart contracts and decentralized applications, blocking Nearly $50.000 billion in TVL (Total Value Locked), according to data from DeFi Llama.
98 projects benefit from the Ethereum Foundation's EFESP program
Through these grants, the Ethereum Foundation has taken another significant step towards strengthening its blockchain ecosystem. This effort has benefited a total of 98 diverse projects, bringing the total funding allocated to community support initiatives to nearly $20 million so far this year.
The Ethereum Foundation's EFESP program presented a report, on August 30, detailing the funding allocations.
According to the Foundation, the allocation of these funds was made with the aim of fostering innovation and development within the Ethereum ecosystem, supporting a wide range of projects ranging from the category of “Community and Education” to “Growth and Support of the Protocol”, to “Cryptography and Zero-Knowledge Proofs”, “Execution Layer”, “Layer2”, “General Research” y “Developer Experience and Tools”, among others.
Promoting Ethereum Education
The “Community and Education” category includes a total of 41 projects focused on initiatives such as Ethereum conventions and small meetups around the world, which aim to educate the community and promote the use of blockchain technology.
Among the outstanding projects is the “Blockchain Course with UNAH”, a collaboration with the National Autonomous University of Honduras that offers a comprehensive program on cryptocurrencies and blockchain. Hackathons such as the “Code Africa Hackathon” in Nairobi, Kenya, which seeks to encourage the creation of projects with positive social impact, exploring topics such as privacy and account abstraction.
Security, decentralization and privacy
A total of 28 projects were supported in the “Cryptography and Zero-Knowledge Proofs” category, which is the second category with the most supported initiatives in the second quarter.
This category includes innovative projects such as a protocol that uses zero-knowledge technology to prove ownership of a digital identity (ID) of residence in India on the Ethereum blockchain. Other notable projects in this category include the creation of a specific language for writing zero-knowledge circuits, the production of educational content on this technology, and the development of a completely anonymous social platform where users' identities are protected from being monitored. This decentralized social platform, which is aimed at the Taiwanese community, is crucial at a time when privacy and freedom of expression are at odds. global censorship challenges.
The Ethereum Foundation maintains a diversified approach to growth
The report released last week also reveals that EFESP has supported seven projects focused on “Developer Experience and Tools,” as well as initiatives aimed at improving Ethereum’s “Execution Layer” and fostering the “Overall Growth and Support” of the blockchain network. These efforts are essential to optimizing the developer experience in building decentralized applications (dApps) and improving Ethereum’s infrastructure.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised the initiative on social media, noting that the report provides a clear view of how the Foundation's funds are spent.
However, the presentation of the EFESP report also comes at a time of controversy, as the Ethereum Foundation was questioned for the recent transfer of 34.000 ETH to an exchange address, which raised speculation about the management of its funds.
Still, the Ethereum Foundation and EFESP have proven to be a key driver for the growth of the Ethereum ecosystem, not only by providing funding but also by fostering collaboration and education around blockchain technology. With a diversified focus spanning from education to cryptography research, the Foundation seeks to cement Ethereum’s future as a leading platform in the cryptocurrency space.
Through this program, the Foundation is demonstrating its commitment to supporting innovative projects that drive innovation and growth of the network, as well as fostering the creation of solutions that strengthen the global Ethereum community. With this support, Ethereum remains the leading ecosystem in the cryptocurrency and blockchain technology space. In the first quarter of the year, the Foundation allocated $11,4 million to 109 projects of various categories.
