📍 ‌The whales of Bitcoin, as the entities and large holders of the cryptocurrency, have surpassed their 2016 peak according to data from GlassNode. To date, there are almost 2.000 Bitcoin whales that handle a total of 2.153 directions of Bitcoin with more than 1.000 BTC, which is equivalent to about 2,15 million bitcoins. According to the cryptocurrency's price at the time of writing, Bitcoin whales are holding $37,9 billion worth of BTC; an amount in BTC that represents about 12% of the total bitcoins in circulation.

Although this data allows us to know the number of addresses with amounts greater than 1.000 BTC, we cannot know exactly the number of companies or individuals that manage these addresses; since the same address can be managed by multiple companies or users, or vice versa, a company or user can manage several of these addresses. However, GlassNode assures that they have applied algorithms and other analytical methods to individualize the addresses and get closer to the real number of people or companies that manage them.
