Kazakhstan has approved a new regulatory framework for large-scale cryptocurrency mining. This legislation links access to electricity quotas to the obligation to transfer a portion of the generated crypto assets to a state-backed national reserve, marking a milestone in the institutionalization of the sector.
The new legal framework
Registered mining companies will be required to comply with strict energy consumption limits and trade a percentage of the mined coins through locally authorized exchanges. The main objective is to mitigate pressure on the national electricity grid while strengthening the fiscal and institutional transparency of the digital asset ecosystem.
With these rules, Kazakhstan seeks to balance energy sustainability with technological development, consolidating its position as a strategic player in the cryptocurrency mining industry.
Investing in cryptoassets is not fully regulated, may not be suitable for retail investors due to high volatility and there is a risk of losing all invested amounts.
