The metaverse is becoming increasingly present in the Colombian judicial system.
The city of Barranquilla, considered one of the three pearls of the Caribbean, celebrated the first virtual wedding in the metaverse in all of Latin America.

A civil wedding in the virtual world
Meanwhile, the bride, influencer Daniela Ramírez, celebrated the fact that they became the first Latin American couple to get married in the virtual world. “It's great that we are the first couple in Latin America to get married this way,” Ramírez told a local media outlet.
Ramírez indicated that the idea of celebrating their civil wedding in the metaverse came from the Third Notary of Barranquilla.
The popularity that the Metaverse has been gaining in recent years has allowed it to extend beyond the video game and gaming industry.
Colombia leads the adoption of the Metaverse in Latin America
In Colombia, this is not the first time that the judicial system has carried out a process within the virtual world.
As reported by this media last month, the Administrative Court of Magdalena agreed to carry out the country's first virtual hearing in the metaverse, using the platform developed by Meta Platforms.
The request was accepted by Judge María Victoria Quiñones Triana at the request of the plaintiff, in a lawsuit against the National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office. For Judge Quiñones Triana, the metaverse is an immersive virtual space capable of transforming the exercise of law.
Meanwhile, in the city of Medellin, the second largest in Colombia, councilors held their first session in the Metaverse to discuss a project based on blockchain technology last week.
The headquarters of the Medellín Council was replicated virtually to bring together the 21 councilors who are part of the organization using avatars.
More weddings in the Metaverse
The first virtual wedding in the metaverse took place in 2021, when avatars Traci and Dave Gagnon got married in the virtual world at the same time as the physical world.
Later in early 2022, South Indian couple Dinesh Padmavathi and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy became the first couple in the country to celebrate their civil union through a virtual platform. Also in February of that year, a couple from Dubai tied the knot by recreating their union in the Metaverse.
People are increasingly attracted to the virtual world because of the ease this environment offers for unlimited interaction.
