Wasabi Wallet, the privacy-focused Bitcoin digital wallet, announces its roadmap for the launch of Wasabi Wallet 2.0 in its final version.

The developers of Wasabi wallet, a digital wallet designed to guarantee and protect the privacy of users without the need for a trusted third party, have been working on creating a second version, Wasabi Wallet 2.0, 2020 since.

The idea behind Wasabi Wallet 2.0, which will be a next-generation digital wallet, is to integrate a new scheme the coinjo, LLAMADA WabiSabi, which facilitates and ensures the privacy of transactions made with bitcoins from the wallet.

According to Roadmap published this Wednesday, the new version of the wallet, announced in November 2020, also includes a new, much more intuitive and easy-to-use user interface that will completely replace the previous one. With this, Wasabi Wallet developers will allow anyone in the world, and not just Bitcoiners, to make use of the digital wallet.

The team has expressed that with Wasabi Wallet 2.0 they are preparing for mass adoption of Bitcoin globally. Although there is no set date for its launch, the team estimates that it will occur within a period of 6 to 14 weeks from the publication of the roadmap.

Ready for the final version of Wasabi Wallet 2.0

In the roadmap published on Wednesday, the developers indicate that they will release a version of the new wallet that only includes the most fundamental features of the wallet, in order to have a much simpler version of the software, which will allow them to begin testing and correct any initial errors that may arise in its implementation.

The simple version of the new wallet will be included on the Bitcoin testnet. After this, the developers will release a version of Wasabi Wallet 2.0, called Release Candidate, which will include all the functions of the digital wallet and will be available to the public for review and testing. Finally, the development team will release the first full version of the new digital wallet.

Also in the roadmap, the wallet developers indicate that Wasabi version 1.0 will continue to run in parallel with Wasabi 2.0, to allow wallet users enough time to get to know how the new version of the wallet works, and then upgrade once they deem it appropriate.

Greater security and privacy for users

Wasabi Wallet 2.0 will replace the Chaumian CoinJoin scheme with WabiSabi, which will ensure a higher level of privacy and security for wallet users, while allowing greater flexibility in organizing outputs in coinjoins. The new CoinJoin scheme that Wasabi 2.0 will integrate will also allow users to make transactions much faster and cheaper, optimizing the wallet's performance.

“Wasabi Wallet 2.0 is a combination of improvements to the user interface (UI), user experience (UX), and Coinjoin (CJ).”

In terms of UX, manually combining or mixing cryptocurrencies will be a thing of the past, the developers said, though the feature will be active for those advanced users who want to continue making use of it. The next-generation wallet also considers opening the doors to combining with other technologies, the team said in a statement. Valid identity document previously published in November.

CoinJoin is a decentralized protocol that allows users to cryptocurrencies, combine and exchange their digital assets to obfuscate their origin. This way, neither external observers nor participants in the mixing process will know where the received coins come from. The CoinJoin protocol also ensures the fungibility of coins, preventing them from being marked or associated with illicit activities or financial crimes.
