Microsoft appears to have plans to integrate cryptocurrencies into its Xbox gaming console.
Leaked documents from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) lawsuit against Microsoft over its acquisition of US game developer Activision Blizzard have revealed the tech giant's possible plans to integrate cryptocurrency wallet support into the Xbox video game console.
According to the leaked documents, the next-generation ecosystem of Xbox could include cryptocurrencies among the different payment methods which supports the console for players to purchase gaming products.
Support for cryptocurrency wallets, as detailed in the documents, would be included in future new versions of the Xbox console depending on the Play to Earn (P2E) games, which allow players to build virtual economies within video games, through tokens and NFTs, to monetize the time and effort they dedicate to them.
According to The Verge, this week the Northern District Court of California ruled in favor of Microsoft in the lawsuit filed by the FTC, which is holding the technology company responsible for leaking court documents in the case.
Microsoft could develop a crypto wallet for Xbox
The documents in question also state that Microsoft could develop its own cryptocurrency wallet to integrate crypto assets into the new video game console.
According to the news site Axios, the company's documents, dating back to May of last year, speak of the integration of a Xbox-Microsoft Wallet, suggesting that Microsoft could develop its own digital wallet solution rather than using one of the existing ones.
However, Microsoft's plans to develop a cryptocurrency wallet are not unknown.
Last March, Bit2Me reported that the American technology multinational was working on the Developing a Web3 wallet solution, Which is Compatible with both cryptocurrencies and NFT tokensThis Web3 wallet solution will be integrated into the company's web browser, Edge, to make it easier for users to access the ecosystem of decentralized applications (DApps) that are built on the blockchain.
Artificial Intelligence is integrated
In addition to support for cryptocurrency wallets, Microsoft also appears to have plans to Supporting Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning on the Xbox next-generation. According to Axios, these plans will allow video games available on the console to offer “super-resolution” game graphics and optimized frame rates, among other improvements.
An important point that Axios made, and that should be kept in mind, is that Microsoft's plans for future versions of Xbox can change drastically, considering that leaked court documents expose the roadmap the company was handling last year, before the collapse of the Terra ecosystem and that the next-generation Xbox, Xbox Gen 10, could take until 2028 to hit the market.
Microsoft wants to bring the masses to Web3
As for Web3, Microsoft has been working on other important developments to help build and expand this ecosystem. This year alone, Microsoft has announced several strategic partnerships with leading projects in the blockchain industry, such as Axelar Network, Ankr, and Aptos.
Together with Axelar, Microsoft wants to support the construction of New interoperability solutions that improve the connection between public and private blockchain networks and that allow bridging the gap between Web3 and traditional Internet systems. On the other hand, together with Ankr and Aptos, the American multinational wants to focus on expanding access to the blockchain ecosystem for the millions of monthly Microsoft Azure customers.
As part of these alliances, Ankr will provide a new enterprise RPC service to offer Microsoft customers low-latency global blockchain connections, while Aptos will create a solution to make it easy and secure for Microsoft customers and users to join the Web3 ecosystem.
All of these alliances are focused on creating new Web3 tools that facilitate the integration of the masses into the decentralized web.
