In 5 years cryptocurrencies will be extremely popular, Visa CEO Alfred F Kelly Jr. said during his participation in Leadership Next from Fortune.
Alfred Kelly Jr., CEO of the multinational financial services and payments company Visa, said that the company is now betting on cryptocurrencies because it believes in their potential for future expansion. According to his statements at the Espaitec's Leadership Next According to Fortune, cryptocurrencies are proving to be a vibrant and promising ecosystem for the future, making it possible for them to become an “extremely popular” asset class.
Visa is optimistic about cryptocurrencies
Al Kelly, as Alfred is also known, sat down with Alan Murray, CEO of Fortune, at Leadership Next to express with optimism that cryptocurrencies could play a truly important role in society in the next 5 years.
Visa has been betting heavily on cryptocurrencies, and even non-fungible tokens or NFT, apparently in an effort to prepare for an imminent future where this class of digital assets dominates. According to Al Kelly, although it is possible that cryptocurrencies are a passing fad and cease to exist in the future, the current reality shows much more possibilities that they will continue to grow and expand everywhere.
“We do envision it possibly taking off and becoming a big business. We certainly want to be prepared for that, and I think we’re off to a great start.” Visa CEO stated.
Since its inception, with the appearance of Bitcoin First introduced in 2009, cryptocurrencies have been transforming the way we see and perceive money, as well as disrupting and revolutionizing the current financial system. Although many still maintain a reserved and critical position towards these digital assets, many others, such as Visa, are beginning to embrace the cryptocurrency revolution and its empowerment in the field of finance and the economy.

For Al Kelly, securing Visa's involvement in the crypto space today is one of the smartest decisions he's made so far. According to his words during the podcast, he's not smart enough to say with complete certainty that cryptocurrencies will be part of the future, but he did say that he is smart enough to ensure that Visa is part of the crypto ecosystem today.
Visa CEO said that Bitcoin, the industry-leading cryptocurrency, could establish itself as a substitute for gold, while other digital assets, such as stablecoins, could become a solid, accessible and reliable means of payment.
In recent months, Visa has been consolidating its position within the cryptocurrency ecosystem. In March, it reported that it would begin settling payments with cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. That same month, it announced that it would use the network Ethereum to accept direct payments with the stablecoin USD Coin (USDC) and would then extend its new services to other cryptocurrencies in the industry.
Recently, in August, the financial multinational invested $150.000 for an NFT of the Cryptopunks, highlighting the value of digital art and highlighting the innovation of non-fungible tokens and cryptopunks as one of the greatest cultural movements of all time.
