Cardano developer and operator Input Output Global (IOG) announced on Twitter over the weekend that the Cardano blockchain hard fork upgrade, Vasil, is scheduled to go live on the mainnet on the 22nd of this month.

Furthermore, Input Output also stated in this Twitter thread that Vasil is the most important Cardano update so far, and also the one that provides greater network capacity and transactions with lower costs. Likewise, this update will also bring improvements to Plutus (Cardano's Smart Contracts platform), as it will allow developers to create much more efficient and powerful blockchain-based applications.

The Cardano Hard Fork is getting closer

Cardano's Vasil update has already been delayed several times due to the need to fix different bugs and carry out different software tests by the developers. In fact, they themselves explained that they do not seek to be the fastest in carrying out their updates or presenting their new features, but rather they seek to offer a secure, efficient network that really adds value to its community.

A hard fork is a type of permanent update to a blockchain protocol that makes the new network incompatible with previous blocks. This type of network is typically used to add or correct features of a blockchain. With this new announcement, it is worth noting that the price of the ADA token rose by 2,25% in the last hours of the weekend and by 15,30% in the last week.
