Theta Labs announced the launch of Edgecast, the new decentralized application for video streaming, where users will be able to freely participate and generate earnings by sharing their content and interacting with other users.
The decentralized platform Theta, integrated a new application called Edgecast, which is available in beta, and allows users to capture and stream video content in real time. In addition, thanks to a partnership with the international poker tournament series, the World Poker Tour, Theta users and consumers will be able to enjoy all the competition matches through this new platform.
Theta is a streaming platform designed to share content in a decentralized and autonomous way, and rewards the creators and consumers of that content as they interact within the platform. Theta aims to become a global infrastructure for video content creation and data delivery that is unique in the world.
Your CEO, Mitch Liu, assures that Theta has constantly evolved, going from being a centralized platform, to a hybrid platform, and will soon become a completely decentralized one, capable of generating benefits for each key actor that participates within the video streaming value chain, ranging from content creators to end users and the platform itself.
Now with the launch With Edgecast, Theta is one step further on the path to consolidating its objective, and efficiently contributing to the construction of a freer, fairer and more decentralized future.

Streaming real-time content
Edgecast is a decentralized application (dapper) developed to enable real-time content streaming, but also to capture and share that content in real-time. According to its developers, Edgecast has the ability to capture video, transcode it in real-time, cache it, and retransmit it to users globally, using Theta's peer-to-peer (P2P) network, which is comprised of over 2.000 nodes connected around the world today.
“We are excited to introduce Theta Edgecast, the first fully decentralized video streaming DApp that is 100% built on Theta’s native blockchain technology with smart contracts.”
In this way, with Edgecast users will be able to transmit or watch broadcasts in a 100% decentralized and real-time manner, without the network using a central server or service, which represents a great achievement for the industry, as well as a great challenge.
Theta Labs, the company behind the development of the Theta network, said that the beta launch of Edgecast will allow users to openly test the application, which they hope will provide valuable feedback and suggestions.
Rewards for users
Theta rewards viewers or end users with its TFUEL token for sharing their bandwidth, as well as content creators for uploading original content to the streaming platform. However, with Theta Edgecast users will also receive rewards for uploading original streams on Edgecast or watching other users’ Edgecast streams.
Rewards will be issued in TFUEL tokens through Edge Caching and Edge Compute functions. Theta Edgecast is available on a completely redesigned Edge Node application, which integrates new capabilities for real-time content streaming.
On the road to a global blockchain-based network
Theta developers claim that this platform is close to consolidating itself as a global network of interconnected nodes on a blockchain platform, which will become a reference point and leading design for all video entertainment companies that exist in the industry.
Today, Theta represents a great home for esports streamers, blockchain content creators such as Chico Crypto, Data Dash, and many more, as well as major brand partners such as MGM Studios, NASA, World Poker Tour, CONtv Anime, among others, the company says. For this reason, its developers remain focused on continuing to evolve the network, to continue providing its community with a unique user experience and a unique opportunity for change.
Theta has signed alliances with major technology players such as Google, which is now part of its network of business validators. The company has also joined Samsung to bring its streaming platform to more than 75 million users worldwide. The company also has other important alliances, such as Binance, Gumi, Sliver.TV, Blockchain.com, MBN and others, which are intended to strengthen and consolidate its ambitious goal.
At the time of this edition, THETA, the platform's native token, has a value of $0,65 USD and a market capitalization of $649.783.782 USD, a fairly significant growth in recent months.
