The Fortnite 'token': Epic Games CEO talks about it and announces measures

The creators of the Fortnite Token claim that “it is a project created by fans of the video game and driven by the community.”

The popular online video game Fortnite has a digital token with its name that was created towards the end of 2021.

This has recently surprised Epic Games, as the company that created the video game did not know about the existence of the token. In this way, Tim Sweeney, the CEO, has explained that Epic Games has nothing to do with this project, that Fornite does not have any official cryptocurrency and that they will take legal action against this community.

Epic Games CEO has posted on Twitter that this project and its accounts are a scam and that there is no in-game cryptocurrency. He also said that the company's lawyers are working on this matter and criticized the blockchain industry for allowing such projects. These latest comments have earned him complaints from the crypto community for targeting the entire universe in a negative way.

For its part, the team that created the Fortnite Token (FNT) has responded to Sweeney stating that their project is not a scam, but a crypto project created by fans of the online game Fortnite, driven by the community and with a fair launch. They also pointed out that this project has no specific owners or company structure behind it, which guarantees that it is a free and community project.

At this point, Tim Sweeny has responded by outlining the issues regarding copyright and trademark registration with the so-called fan-created Fortnite Token, highlighting that this community had no right to use either the image or the official name of Fortnite as they had not requested permission nor had any relationship with the company that created the popular online game.

While the Fortnite Token is still active, these statements show that Epic Games' lawyers are working to put an end to this project. In the future, we will see if this company has real plans to create an NFT or an official token related to Fortnite.
