The Cardano Hard Fork is getting closer

Cardano Vasil

IOHK notes that 42% of Cardano's SPO nodes have been upgraded, although developers want to wait until at least 75% of nodes are upgraded.

Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the company in charge of developing the Cardano blockchain, has announced, in a thread on its Twitter account, that the implementation of the hard fork Vasil is “getting closer” and has revealed three critical indicators that will be responsible for triggering the mainnet update.

Key indicators include the fact that the 75% of mainnet blocks are produced by nodes running version 1.35.3, that around 25 exchanges have upgraded (representing 80% of the total liquidity on the network) and that the top ten Cardano decentralized applications (dApps) have already upgraded.

Moreover, the Action Pool Operators (SPO), running node 1.35.3, already account for 42% of the mainnet block production in the current era, which is more than 75% required.

The last of the indicators that IOHK has set for deploying Cardano on the main network is that, at least 25 Major Cryptocurrency Exchanges Upgrade Their Nodes, as this would represent almost 80% of the total liquidity of the ADA token. For now, only one of the main exchanges in the world has updated the nodes, so this point is the one that could take the longest to be fulfilled.

As for dApps, four of the Ten major decentralized application developers have already updated their nodes, and are working with node 1.35.3 on the pre-production testnet.

Finally, IOHK has noted that no more bugs have been found in Cardano, leaving only nine minor bugs to be resolved and none of them would be significant enough to cause a hard fork.

The wait for the biggest update in Cardano history

According to the roadmap Cardano published in May, the implementation of Vasil on the mainnet was scheduled for June 29However, development has been experiencing minor delays, which has caused its implementation on the test network to take longer than expected.

Recently, a series of node problems were close to hampering the implementation again. Luckily, a developer managed to quickly fix it, noting that Cardano “is better than ever"and that the implementation will be properly deployed this month.

On the other hand, although Vasil is destined to be one of the major updates In the history of Cardano, some experts suggest that, as happened with Alonzo, the changes will not be so profound.
