📍The Spanish telecommunications multinational and one of South Africa's largest banks are moving closer to the Metaverse this week. Telefónica has organised its first event dedicated to the Metaverse, a technology that, it explained, is redefining all our forms of consumption, entertainment and communication.
The Spanish company will hold this Thursday, September 29, the “Telefónica Metaverse Day”, which will take place in the city of Madrid and also online, to raise awareness about the metaverse and emerging technologies. Telefónica assured that it will continue to invest in exploring all the opportunities offered by the virtual world to “discover everything from the revolution in communications with video calls in the metaverse, augmented reality and virtual reality initiatives, to initiatives related to web decentralization, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.”
Those interested can attend the “Telefónica Metaverse Day” in person or opt for digital alternatives, such as streaming or creating their own avatar to enter Telefónica’s multi-user virtual environment; a space where augmented reality and virtual reality will be combined to take users to new immersive experiences.
Nedbank, one of South Africa's largest banks, made its entrance this week into the African metaverse Ubuntuland, developed by Africarare. According to the bank, its aim is to build a village in Ubuntuland as a space to develop and showcase the creativity characteristic of Africa.
Disney is looking for a lawyer with expertise in new technologies
📍A new job posting from Disney reveals that the company is looking for an advisor with experience in Blockchain, DeFi and NFTs. The Walt Disney Company has published a job offer via LinkedIn to hire a corporate lawyer with experience in emerging technologies, including everything from blockchain and NFTs to the metaverse and decentralized finance (DeFi).
Among the responsibilities listed by the company for its new position are: providing legal advice and full support for the development of global NFT products and managing the different NFT and blockchain projects that the company will develop, as well as third-party markets, cloud providers, among other services.

Bitmain and CTCAP close a deal to mine more Bitcoin with clean energy
