The STM32Cube functionalities, developed between the IOTA and STM alliance, will allow developers to work with microtransactions, while making it easier for them to access to the Internet of Things (IoT) to beginner users.

The leading manufacturer of circuits, integrated devices and microconductor chips in Europe, STMicroelectronics, and the decentralized network IOTA, announced the expansion of their services through a new package of key functionalities, which will allow Tangle, the IOTA network's own architecture based on an algorithm DAY, more accessible to developers and even beginners in this industry.

The company's new features, which were launched in a package under the name STM32Cube, enable greater use cases for IOTA, creating a favorable scenario for the development of new and better development opportunities for any industry, such as traceability in supply chains. Likewise, the STM feature set will also allow for greater adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) by experts and beginners alike, as it will connect any IOTA-enabled device to the decentralized Tangle network, ensuring greater adaptation of the IOTA network within the semiconductor and embedded device industry.

STM32Cube, the new features in IOTA

The partnership between STM and IOTA dates back to last year, when STM spokesperson Fabrizio Rovati announced that they would be working with the network to integrate IOTA's decentralized technology into their operations. At the time, Rovati affirmó that:

“We started working with Distributed Ledger technologies several years ago… We said that IOTA is a particularly good way to work between DLT and IOT… We focus on Smart Industry, Smart Cities and Smart Driving – we said this could be a very good way to get into Distributed Ledger technology, so we started engaging with you and started developing this package.”

For Rovati, the distributed technology that IOTA uses, which is not based on blockchain, represents one of the most innovative things that can help the company implement various functionalities and use cases, such as data management, privacy enhancement, and contract signing, just to mention a few. Likewise, the company spokesperson highlighted that STM's main interest is in adapting this technology to microtransactions, considering that these will be one of the most interesting use cases for society in general.

Importance of STM32Cube tools

One of the main characteristics of STM32Cube It allows developers to work with microtransactions on IOTA in an easy and controlled manner, reducing development efforts, work time, and costs required. It is a combination of useful development tools that address a range of needs ranging from component design to application design and other advanced features.

STM32Cube integrates components and tools such as a graphical user interface, which allows generating C code through graphical wizards, as well as the configuration of the X-CUBE-IOTA1 middleware and other functions. STM32Cube also supports the generation of IDE projects with a wide selection of development environment tools, facilitating power consumption calculations and ensuring STM32CubeMX software updates. STM32Cube components and tools can be used together or independently, depending on the developer's needs.

About IOTA and STM

IOTA is a distributed ledger technology (DLT) and protocol that enables the secure and trustworthy exchange of data and information over the Internet of Things (IoT). Although many people tend to compare it to Bitcoin, the truth is that IOTA allows for a number of functionalities that go beyond the blockchain. In this sense, the technology used by IOTA, Tangle, does not require nodes to download the entire database to operate, making it a perfect network for embedded systems.

STM is an international company with more than 50 employees dedicated to the design and manufacturing of semiconductors across Europe. The company is a leading manufacturer of integrated devices offering innovative and feasible solutions for smart driving, smart energy, smart city construction and much more.
