Starbucks unveils its Web3 Odyssey strategy on Polygon

International coffee chain Starbucks has chosen the Polygon Network for its Web3 strategy, Starbucks Odyssey.

Polygon Network has been chosen by Starbucks as the sidechain to develop its upcoming Web3 experience, which includes the launch of a limited edition NFT collection. The company detailed that Polygon is a highly scalable network that maintains very low energy consumption, thus fully aligning with its sustainability goals.

The Polygon network became a carbon neutral blockchain last June. This blockchain will provide the public infrastructure for Starbucks customers to interact on Web3 with fast transactions and near-zero commission fees.

Through Odyssey, Starbucks will be strengthening its Starbucks Rewards loyalty program, connecting its customers and partners with the opportunities of the virtual world.

Brady Brewer, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Starbucks, said this is the first time the American coffee chain is making use of new technologies, such as Blockchain and Web3, to offer immersive experiences that were not possible before

Through Starbucks Odyssey, the company will offer its customers and members of the Starbucks Rewards program the chance to earn NFT stamps, which will be digital collectibles and unlock access to new and immersive experiences within the café.

Starbucks' first NFT collection

Starbucks has become one of the first companies in the coffee industry to integrate non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, into its loyalty program.

As part of Starbucks Odyssey, the company will develop a series of activities, including interactive games and challenges, with winners rewarded with limited-edition NFT “travel stamps.” Starbucks Collection Non-Fungible Tokens Will Be Developed Using Polygon's Scalability Network and can also be purchased through a marketplace platform that will be integrated into your Web3 experience.

The initiative seeks to provide greater value and utility to its customers through digital, physical and experiential benefits that are exclusive to the company, Brewer said.

Through NFTs, Starbucks also wants to unlock new ways to interact with its customers and partners in a more direct and up-close manner.

Starbucks has opened a waiting list for its NFTs

This Tuesday, the coffee chain opened a waiting list or waitlist where your customers can register to enjoy the Starbucks Odyssey experience when it becomes available.

Starbucks has said it wants to build its future on the potential offered by new technologies. The company wants to create a space where its community can gather digitally, so that its customers and consumers can connect with each other over a cup of coffee, no matter where they are, while also being able to participate and enjoy different immersive experiences.

Starbucks announced the adoption of blockchain technology to drive a new Web3 strategy earlier last month.

At the time, the company said its new digital strategy would be unveiled during Starbucks Investor Day, which falls on Tuesday, September 13. Starbucks Odyssey is expected to be available later this year, the company reported in a release recent.
