Splinterlands, the platform for trading and earning blockchain collectibles in NFT format, raised $3,6 million in a funding round in which Axie Infinity's company participated.

Yield Guild Gaming, the developer company of the popular game Axie Infinity blockchain, participated in a $3,6 million funding round for the game NFT Splinterlands. The goal of the round is to boost the growth and development of Splinterlands, one of the fastest growing and most popular games in the industry that allows its players to collect digital cards. Splinterlands is developed on the Hive Blocks blockchain.

Animoca Brands, a major blockchain game developer, was also present at Splinterlands' funding round, as was cryptocurrency investment management and advisory company vendetta capital.

This digital game is designed for players to build their own collection of NFT cards, with unique characteristics and abilities that are registered within the blockchain. Users can use their cards to battle other players on the platform and earn rewards. Also, as digital assets registered on the blockchain, Splinterlands collectible cards can be traded both on the platform and on secondary markets.

SPS, the governance token of Splinterlands

Splinterlands' funding round was carried out through the offering of its SPS token, the game's governance token that will give its owners a say in the decisions and future development of the project, as well as the activities organized within it.

SPS will serve both for project governance and for carrying out staking or staking within Splinterlands. The token will also have features for liquidity mining, generating oracle node rewards, and many other features. Splinterlands developers indicated that SPS will soon be available on the market through the BSC blockchain.

Among the top 5 NFTs

On data DappRadar’s statistics show that Splinterlands is rapidly rising through the ranks, and currently sits in the top 5 NFT protocols in terms of growth and adoption. Although its daily trading volume is low compared to other protocols, Splinterlands has one of the most active crypto communities in the industry, with an average of 22.000 active users per day; giving it the fifth place within this category.

The popularity that Splinterlands is gaining has a lot to do with its adoption of game mechanics Play-to-Earn or play to win, which gives players the opportunity to generate value while participating in the game. One of the leading blockchain games within this mechanic is precisely Axie Infinity, which is moving more than 23 million dollars in value per day and whose AXS governance token has skyrocketed to stratospheric levels in just a few days.
