In Africa, millions of people use mobile money on very basic phones without having access to the Internet. From now on, they will also be able to send and receive bitcoin in the same way, thanks to a service called Machankura8333, which will make this alternative available in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Namibia, Malawi, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania, through any mobile phone, even if it does not have Internet.
This service works like EcoCash or M-Pesa, using the USSD code. This code, which stands for “Unstructured Supplementary Service Data”, allows a real-time connection to be created during each USSD session. In this way, the connection remains open, allowing a two-way exchange of a data stream. A dialog box will appear in the menu where you can choose different options by dialing the codes on your phone. Basically, this works the same way as SMS text messages, which also don't require an Internet connection.
On the other hand, it is key to keep in mind that Machankura8333 is not a solution designed to store or safeguard a lot of money, since it does not have a backup method, although it is expected that this condition will be added in the near future. At the moment, it is a perfect alternative for daily payments and expenses without having to have Internet access.
