Rune Christensen Introduces SakuraDAO to Bring DeFi to the Mainstream

During the SubDAO Genesis event, MakerDAO co-founder Rune Christensen introduced the SakuraDAO subDAO as a tool to bring decentralized finance (DeFi) into the mainstream.

Rune Christensen believes that subDAOs are the key to maintaining the decentralization of the DeFi ecosystem.

SubDAOs are a new approach to the governance structure of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), which will allow these organizations to delegate functions among their members in order to maintain decentralization as they grow and expand.

During the SubDAO Genesis event, Christensen emphasized the fundamental role of subDAOs for the consolidation of MakerDAO as one of the leading protocols in the decentralized finance ecosystem. She highlighted that the creation of SakuraDAO represents an important step for the evolution of the decentralized protocol.

In mid-May, Christensen presented a new plan, dubbed “Endgame”, with which it seeks to evolve the MakerDAO protocol, guaranteeing decentralization, efficiency and transparency. SubDAOs are part of this strategic plan to build the future of MakerDAO.

What is SakuraDAO?

SakuraDAO is a subDAO of the MakerDAO protocol inspired by the Japanese Sakura culture, as Christensen explained.

In his presentation, the MakerDAO founder described SakuraDAO as a key tool in creating a new performance model within the decentralized finance ecosystem that will help bring DeFi to the mainstream.

In Christensen's opinion, subDAOs will allow the unexplored potential of DAOs to be explored to activate the true power of the community and open the door to an immense opportunity for value creation.

Japan, a superpower for Web3 development

According to Christensen, SakuraDAO will allow the Maker community to connect with the culture of Japan, one of the most relevant countries for the development of Web3.

Christensen highlighted that Japan has a large cryptocurrency user base, is adopting industry-friendly regulations and is focusing on the development of the GameFi and Web3 ecosystem, so the country is becoming a superpower for cryptocurrency marketing. the crypto.

“Unique experiences like Web3 games, real-life events, quality content, and NFTs can create incredible community value,” said the MakerDAO co-founder.

Sakura is a Japanese term that means “cherry blossom” and represents the arrival of spring.

SparkDAO and other subDAOs

In addition to SakuraDAO, MakerDAO also introduced other subDAOs such as SparkDAO, an organization that will allow the community to govern the next-generation DAI-focused lending protocol, Spark Protocol, through the SPK token.

Likewise, the event saw the presentation of the Real-World Asset SubDAOs and The Quantitative SubDAO, pioneers in the tokenization of billions of dollars of real-world assets (RWA) on the blockchain.

MakerDAO explained that these subDAOs are made up of a decentralized community focused on bringing public and private credit to the blockchain through the tokenization of tangible assets such as real estate.

This week, Christensen also talked about the potential for decentralized stablecoins to dominate the market in the future. During the Token2049 event, which was held in Singapore, she commented that the dominance of decentralized stablecoins will increase considerably if high inflation rates in the economy continue.

“I believe that if the space fulfills its potential, then decentralized stablecoins will be the entire market, just as centralized stablecoins will be the links that connect us to the legacy system,” Christensen highlighted.
