Royal Caribbean takes its cruises to the Metaverse, the new frontier of tourism

Tourists can now embark on a journey into the Metaverse with Royal Caribbean, one of the largest cruise companies in the world.

Royal Caribbean takes its cruises to the Metaverse

Cruise line Royal Caribbean has launched a virtual experience to take its transoceanic cruises to the Metaverse.

One of the cruise lines operated by Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, announced the launch of Wonderverse, a metaverse experience that will allow users to enjoy cruises in a completely immersive way.

Celebrity Cruises' metaverse experience integrates NFT tokens and will give users the chance to learn about and enjoy the company's ships and transoceanic voyages before purchasing any of its packages.

Celebrity Cruises explained that users will be able to board a virtual cruise ship in Wonderverse to tour its ships and facilities, visit the main cities that are visited during the cruises, participate in different activities; in addition to swimming in the pools and enjoying various pleasures, such as having a drink at the bar, playing games and much more.

Wonderverse is part of a creative marketing strategy, as users who visit Celebrity Cruises' metaverse will have the option to purchase a real trip if they liked the virtual experience.

The cruise experience in the Metaverse

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises are among the first cruise lines to embrace the technology of the Metaverse to blend the real-world and virtual experience of oceanic travel. Through Wonderverse, travelers will be able to experience four different areas of Royal Caribbean cruise ships, getting a feel for the ship they will be staying on and the experiences they will enjoy before purchasing their tickets.

Additionally, the metaverse experience that the company is offering will allow users to earn NFT tokens while browsing the virtual world.

Metaverse, the new frontier of tourism

The metaverse is offering almost endless opportunities for the tourism industry, which has already begun to materialize and capitalize on several of them. Jorge Pocayo, from Metaverse News, points out that the metaverse is redefining the way in which companies offer their products and services and, also, the way in which we can travel.

With the advent of technology, travel companies such as Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises are turning to the metaverse to offer their customers the opportunity to experience different travel destinations before booking and embarking on a trip, helping travelers and tourists choose a destination more easily.

Some of the metaverse applications that companies in the tourism industry are experimenting with include travel bookings, ticket purchasing, and interactive 3D worlds. For example, The Walt Disney Company is developing its own metaverse experience to immerse its visitors in new immersive themed environments where they can interact with their favorite characters.

Pocayo also points out that tourism companies will also be able to use the metaverse to provide courses and training to their employees and active staff.

Without a doubt, the innovation that the Metaverse is currently offering with the arrival of new technologies, such as blockchain and augmented reality, will encourage more companies and industries to immerse themselves in this digital innovation next year.
