Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are already part of popular culture and have been featured in popular television series.

Now, references to Bitcoin are everywhere. In recent years, many popular TV shows have referred to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Soon, Bitcoin has not only become the leading cryptocurrency by market capitalization, but it has also become a cultural reference point. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum are already part of popular culture. 

For some time now, the cryptocurrencies, They are making headlines in the media, but not only that, they have also appeared in many television series as part of the plots. Today, we want to summarize some of the references to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on television in this article.

The Good Wife

The first reference to Bitcoin on television was found in The Good WifeSpecifically in chapter 13 of season 3, which is titled Bitcoin For Dummies. 

The Simpsons

Bitcoin is mentioned several times in the series. One of the first mentions takes place in Yellow Subterfuge, the seventh episode of season 25, where Krusty mentions it in passing.

However, cryptocurrency is mentioned once again. In one of them, Professor Frink teaches Lisa what Bitcoin is, in a video starring Jim Parsons, the actor who plays the eccentric Dr. Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

The Big Bang Theory

As it could not be otherwise, the group of geniuses of The Big Bang Theory were pioneers in the use of Bitcoin. Episode 9 of season 11 of the series is entirely dedicated to Bitcoin.

In it, Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz and Rashid Koothrappali recall that, in 2010, they mined Bitcoin and stored it on an old computer, but they don't remember exactly which one.

Silicon Valley

In this case, the series shows Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in a more realistic way. Throughout its episodes, several industry terms appear, such as ICO, Bitcoin mining, or price volatility. 

The series even mentions the Coinbase exchange in one of its episodes.

The Blacklist

Another series that discusses cryptocurrencies from a realistic and serious perspective. In this case, we find a complex debate about Bitcoin and Ripple.

Mr. Robot

Mr. Robot is almost certainly the series that has done the most to educate the general public about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. In a world of hackers and cypherpunks, the series talks about cryptocurrencies from a serious and educational point of view.

How to sell drugs online

One of the most recent series that talks about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is How to sell drugs online. In the third season of the Netflix series we are shown the cryptocurrencies, as a way to buy drugs, mimicking what has been seen in real life with the Dark Web marketplace, Silk Road.

Billions

Bitcoin is mentioned in the first episode of the fifth season of the Showtime TV series. In this case, it is mentioned in a negative context, as it questions whether the cryptocurrency is backed by anything more than a “bunch of mathematical equations.”

Cryptocurrencies are also mentioned in the third season, when one of the characters transfers $1 million to a Ledger wallet.

Silk Road. Drugs, Death and the Dark Web

The film follows Ross Ulbricht during his days as he created and managed Silk Road, the largest black market on the Dark Web. Ross found in Bitcoin a form of payment that escaped the authorities' radar and popularized the cryptocurrency by creating a real use case.
