Sportswear brand Puma is selling its name as an NFT on the Opensea marketplace, after registering with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS). 

Puma, a German-based sportswear and apparel company, is the latest of the big consumer brands to join the global trend of cryptocurrencies, y blockchain. In a recent tweet, the domain name service Ethereum Name Service (ENS) reported on the registration of the company, which has changed its name on the social network to PUMA.eth.

The ENS brand's .eth domain name is up for sale via the NFT marketplace Opensea. Currently, the highest bid so far reached $100,000. 0,8 ether; about $2.100 at the time of this writing. 

Users and companies with .eth domain names are becoming more and more common on Twitter, as they greatly facilitate interaction with cryptocurrencies. Through .eth domain names, users can, for example, connect their ETH wallets or addresses, making it easier to send and receive cryptoassets. Furthermore, through the Ethereum name service ENS, users and companies can open the doors to the potential of the new decentralized Internet, Web3. 

Other brands from the textile industry, such as Zara and Nike, are also registered in the ENS service. In fact, the domain name ZARA.eth is currently for sale on the Opensea marketplace, worth 100 ETH (about $262.000). The NIKE.eth is being offered for more than 2,6 million dollars.

Puma, owner of 17 NFTs

The sportswear brand is betting big on blockchain technology, especially the Ethereum ecosystem. To date, Puma has invested in NFTs from popular projects, such as Cool Cats, CatBlox, and Gutter Cat. In fact, one of the latest NFTs associated with the PUMA.eth wallet is gutter cat #1110, purchased by the sportswear brand a few days ago for a total of 7,25 ETH, almost $18.500. 

Puma owns 17 NFTs of cat-related projects, which were purchased through the Opensea marketplace and holds a total of 27.449 ETH in his wallet, according to the data published by DappRadar. 

In addition to this, Puma has recently hinted at a major partnership with projects Gutter Cat Gang and Lazy Lion, who are developing members-only clubs through their NFT tokens. Puma has also partnered with digital fashion house The Fabricant.

Web3, NFT and Metaverse

This week, the German brand published a job offer on the professional social network LinkedIn to hire a Web3 expert as a digital culture manager. In the publicationPuma notes that the candidate must have extensive knowledge of Web3 to help the company develop new strategies within the decentralized world, as well as explore the potential offered by this new Internet and help other departments and teams educate themselves and integrate with this innovation and everything it involves, including DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations). 

Puma details that it has plans to launch its own Web3 projects, focusing on NFTs and the Metaverse.

Sports brands in the blockchain industry

In addition to Puma, other major sportswear brands such as Adidas, Nike y GAP, have made their entrance into the blockchain industry and the Metaverse, one of the biggest trends of the moment. Adidas is developing its own NFT crypto collectibles and its virtual world AdiVerse in The Sandbox. Nike bet on the Roblox video game platform to create Nikeland, while GAP has launched an NFT collection on the scalable Tezos blockchain. 

Likewise, Michael JordanPuma-sponsored basketball star has also been involved with blockchain technology and NFTs in recent months. The six-time NBA champion launched his own NFT development platform last December, to help athletes connect more directly with their audiences and fans.
