Polygon launched its Polygon Avail scaling solution on Testnet this Wednesday, June 29.
With this launch, Polygon developers have taken another step towards blockchain scalability.
Polygon Avail is a blockchain solution focused on data availability that allows developers to have a highly scalable storage layer for use in different execution environments.
As noted on Twitter, this solution is designed to scale other blockchain networks, from standalone blockchains to sidechains and even off-chain solutions.
Polygon Avail was introduced a year ago, in June 2021, as a scalability framework with which creators can approach the design of blockchain systems, to further boost the development of Web 3.
Designing modular blockchains
Polygon Avail is a modular blockchain that promises to solve the data availability problem that has plagued the development of blockchain systems over the past 10 years.
Other blockchain networks can connect to this solution to cover their storage needs, while being able to focus only on the parts or layers of the stack they need to scale their ecosystems.
The developers of this solution explain that Polygon Avail transforms monolithic blockchains, such as Ethereum, into modules, allowing them to perform tasks separately, whether at the execution, settlement or data availability layer. All this using advanced technology, such as Ethereum’s KZG Promise, to ensure a high level of scalability, without compromising security or decentralization.
In turn, Polygon Avail is designed to support the storage needs of hundreds of blockchains at once.

The high level of scalability offered by this blockchain solution allows projects to create unique applications capable of processing a greater number of transactions, in order to satisfy global user demand and add millions of people to the world of Web 3.
Polygon Avail, the key to the DeFi ecosystem and gaming on Polygon
Anurag Arjun, lead developer at Polygon Avail, told CoinDesk that this new scalability framework is a key element to ensure the healthy development of the decentralized finance (DeFi) and blockchain-based gaming ecosystems, which promise to add 1.000 billion users to the cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystem in the coming years.
This scalability framework will bring multiple benefits in the medium and long term. Firstly, Polygon developers point out that Polygon Avail will save between 80% and 95% of development costs and provide greater performance to blockchain ecosystems, by pushing creators “into the modular world of the blockchain.”
In the long run, Polygon Avail will significantly contribute to the expansion of the blockchain ecosystem, enabling the construction of trustless cross-chain bridges and helping project developers launch their own blockchains, without the hassle of starting a set of their own validators or creating a token to handle tokenomics.
