
WisdomTree, one of the SEC-approved Bitcoin ETF issuers, has received a license from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) to offer cryptocurrency custody services in the state.
The issuer of the Cboe-listed “WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund (BTCW)” has received a Limited Purpose Trust Letter by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) authorizing it to provide cryptocurrency services to clients and investors in New York, and even to launch a digital wallet application.
According to Fox Business reporter Eleanor Terrett, WisdomTree has been working closely with the NYDFS for several months to offer cryptocurrency and digital asset-related products and services in the state and has now obtained regulatory approval to do so.
The issuer of exchange-traded funds has the possibility of launch a cryptocurrency app that allows New York clients and investors access to the decentralized monetary system of cryptocurrencies, highlighted the reporter from the X platform (formerly Twitter).

WisdomTree is one of 10 fund issuers that was authorized by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January to launch a Bitcoin spot ETF.
Currently, the ETF issued by WisdomTree, the “WisdomTree Bitcoin Fund (BTCW)”, listed on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe), maintains More than 1.120 bitcoins in reserves, worth $73,5 million today. Although the Bitcoin ETF issued by WisdomTree ranks last among new spot ETFs approved in the US market, experts point out that it is a healthy fund that is leading the intersection of traditional finance with blockchain technology innovation.
Now, the Limited Purpose Trust letter it has received from the New York regulator positions WisdomTree among the companies that promote the transformation towards digital finance.
During an earnings call in early February, Jonathan Steinberg, CEO of the company, discussed with his shareholders and investors about the advantages of tokenization. Steinberg also talked about its application WisdomTree Prime, launched in July 2023, and how it provides access to digital assets, provides better services to optimize the user experience, and generally allows for greater control over the management of assets in custody.
Through WisdomTree Prime, investors can access Bitcoin, Ethereum, and tokenized assets such as gold, among others.
