John had been accused by the United States Department of Justice of tax evasion. According to the department, the tycoon hid the profits obtained with cryptocurrencies, with the sale of the rights to his story to film a documentary, among other things. For this reason, he was arrested, in October, by the Spanish authorities and placed in preventive detention at the Brians 2 Penitentiary Center, located in Barcelona, Spain.
From prison, the American tycoon had been in constant communication with his followers, mainly through the mini-blogging social network Twitter. In one of his last posts, John criticized the actions of the United States, which accused him of hiding his cryptocurrency holdings to evade taxes in the country. The tycoon claimed that his entire fortune had been dissolved, and what was not, had been seized, and he also noted that almost all of his “friends” had disappeared for fear of being associated with him. Despite all the difficulties, John McAfee assured that he did not regret anything.

“It won’t be my fault”
As a foreshadowing or warning, John McAfee had tweeted that if he hanged himself Epstein-style, it would not be his fault. The tycoon may have been hinting that he had no plans to commit suicide in prison, as the criminal did, or that if this happened, it would probably not be a decision of his own.

The Twitter message was posted almost two weeks after his arrest in Spain. However, 7 months later published another tweet saying there was “a lot of pain” in prison, even disguised as hostility.
