John McAfee, the programmer and developer of the famous McAfee antivirus, was found dead on Wednesday morning at the Brians 2 Penitentiary Center in Spain. 

Spanish police authorities confirmed the death of John McAfee, the programmer and developer of the famous McAfee antivirus, this Wednesday. According to the Reports According to Reuters, the cause of death of John, 75, was an apparent suicide, although doctors and the judicial committee are conducting investigations to certify the possible cause of death. The security staff at the Penitentiary Center say that as soon as they noticed the event, they tried to resuscitate John using different maneuvers, although they were unable to do so. A few minutes later, doctors certified his death. 

The controversial and eccentric American tycoon, known for the development of the McAfee antivirus and his history in the world of cryptocurrencies, , was to be extradited to the United States, after the National Court of Spain ordered his deportation to the North American country hours before his death. 

John had been accused by the United States Department of Justice of tax evasion. According to the department, the tycoon hid the profits obtained with cryptocurrencies, with the sale of the rights to his story to film a documentary, among other things. For this reason, he was arrested, in October, by the Spanish authorities and placed in preventive detention at the Brians 2 Penitentiary Center, located in Barcelona, ​​Spain. 

From prison, the American tycoon had been in constant communication with his followers, mainly through the mini-blogging social network Twitter. In one of his last posts, John criticized the actions of the United States, which accused him of hiding his cryptocurrency holdings to evade taxes in the country. The tycoon claimed that his entire fortune had been dissolved, and what was not, had been seized, and he also noted that almost all of his “friends” had disappeared for fear of being associated with him. Despite all the difficulties, John McAfee assured that he did not regret anything.

“It won’t be my fault”

As a foreshadowing or warning, John McAfee had tweeted that if he hanged himself Epstein-style, it would not be his fault. The tycoon may have been hinting that he had no plans to commit suicide in prison, as the criminal did, or that if this happened, it would probably not be a decision of his own. 

"Please know that if I hang myself, Epstein style, it won't be my fault."

The Twitter message was posted almost two weeks after his arrest in Spain. However, 7 months later published another tweet saying there was “a lot of pain” in prison, even disguised as hostility. John, who said he enjoyed good food and a good bed in the Spanish prison, said that if he was extradited to the United States he would spend “the rest of his life” in prison. 

John McAfee always led a life full of eccentricities and controversy, so the confirmation of his death aroused all kinds of emotions and feelings in the more than 1,1 million followers he maintained on Twitter.
