Momoka, the hyperscaling solution for Web3 social networks from Lens Protocol

Decentralized social network for Web3, Lens Protocol, has launched a new scalability solution called Momoka.

Momoka is capable of processing Polygon transactions off-chain with a high level of hyperscalability and low cost, the Lens Protocol developer team indicated via Twitter.

The new scaling solution was introduced in late April as a key component to disrupting traditional social networks and move towards the construction of a decentralized society, where users are owners of their own data.

The Lens Protocol developers explained that Momoka will process transactions at hyperscale, storing them in a data availability layer. This solution uses Optimistic second layer technology to increase transaction speed and reduce transaction costs.

It is a scalability solution that is designed to support the next generation of Web-based social applications3.

Unlike second layer or Layer2 (L2) networks or solutions, Momoka implements a data availability layer to avoid storing data and information on the blockchain. Thanks to this, the solution offers an unprecedented level of scalability that allows application developers to focus on creating innovative new experiences for users, rather than scalability and performance needs.

Momoka was specially designed to provide the next generation of social Web3 users with new platforms that ensure decentralization and data ownership without abandoning the ease and attractiveness of today's social networks.

At the time of writing this article, Momoka has processed more than 19.400 transactions since its launch, with a cost of $0,0005 dollars per transaction, for a total of $10,5 dollars. The number of transactions settled by the scaling solution, as well as the throughput speed, can be verified through the Momoka Explorer transaction explorer.

Permissionless, decentralized social network app Lenster, decentralized video social network Lenstube, and content monetization-focused social network Orb are some of the Lens Protocol-based protocols Momoka is already implementing in beta.

From Bonsai to Momoka

Initially, Momoka was presented under the “Bonsai” brand. However, to avoid a trademark conflict in the future, a day after its launch, the protocol developers decided to change the name to Momoka.

According to The Block, “Bonsai” is a protocol developed by the RISC company Zero to improve the computational capacity of blockchains using zero-knowledge (ZK) technology.

RISC Zero registered the name “Bonsai” as a trademark earlier this year.
