NFL, Super Bowl and NFT

The NFL launched its first-ever virtual commemorative tickets as NFTs during the 2021 regular season. Bobby Gallo, NFL senior vice president of club business development, said the initiative to commemorate fan attendance with NFT tokens had been a huge success during the regular season, inspiring the sports league to “continue this program through the postseason and ultimately into Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles.” Since November of last year, the NFL has given away 250.000 free NFTs to its fans and supporters.

“Every fan attending Super Bowl LVI will receive a complimentary personalized NFT featuring their unique section, row and seat to commemorate game day, providing a digital memento of their experience.”

NFT tokens allow the NFL to enhance the game-day experience for football fans, Gallo said. The success of this launch will also help the sports league delve much deeper into the world of NFTs and blockchain technology, to further evaluate the opportunities this industry can provide to enrich the experience and bring more value to its fans at future tickets and events.

In addition to commemorating its fans with memorabilia NFTs, the NFL will also release a collection of 7 historic NFTs that will celebrate the return of the Super Bowl to Los Angeles after nearly 30 years, as well as previous Super Bowls hosted in the Californian city.

The sports league will also release a unique NFT inspired by the Super Bowl LVI ticket, which will be designed by a local Southern California artist. Participating teams, as well as the winning team in the championship, will also have their own NFTs, the NFL said.
