More than 100.000 users interacted with the Lens protocol in the first 6 months since its beta launch.
The developers of Lens Protocol, a protocol focused on creating decentralized social networks, have announced changing the protocol to a permissionless one.
Through a release, the developers highlighted the need to remove permissions to allow users to build anything they can imagine on the protocol. Until now, to access Lens Protocol, it was necessary to receive an invitation link and also wait on a waiting list to create a user profile.
Now, with the new permissionless protocol, the creators of Lens are removing all the barriers that existed to its use and development, allowing blockchain developers and users in general to explore new use cases, create new user experiences and design other forms of monetization with which they can unlock the value of the Internet.
Lens, the social layer for Web3, is now open
By removing permissions from Lens Protocol, the protocol is taking an important step towards decentralization and freedom.
Stani Kulechov, founder of Aave and Lens, highlighted that, as one of the pioneering protocols of on-chain social networks, the main objective of Lens is to become a fully decentralized protocol, based on user ownership and control.
Kulechov commented that decentralization and freedom are key in the development of Lens, since they are tools that will facilitate innovation. “Great ideas will come from the community and come to life through developers,” he said. Also on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that the Web3 social protocol is open to all who want to join it.
Over the past 18 months, the protocol has been preparing to be permissionless. As indicated by its creators, updates to Momoka, Open Actions, and the launch of improved social graph APIs are part of the preparations that have been underway to boost its decentralization.
More than 400 applications implemented on Lens Protocol
Lens Protocol launched permissioned and in beta in May 2022, maintaining a focus on security and scalability. However, its constant development has made it, currently, one of the main social media protocols on the blockchain.
To date, Lens has a thriving and vibrant community of developers and users, with several thousand users interacting with Lens apps and more than 11 million followers on the platform. In addition to this, the Lens Protocol community has created over 37 million social transactions on the protocol, including 5 million posts and 2,2 million comments.
The protocol also has a total of 400 applications implemented to date.
