Google integrates blockchain-based transactions

App developers will be able to offer users blockchain-based transactions within apps and games on Google Play.

Google's mobile application platform, Google Play has updated its policy to support blockchain-based transactions within existing apps and games. 

Joseph Mills, Google Play product manager, said the platform's new policies allow app developers to incorporate digital asset transactions, , the Cryptocurrencies, Tokens and NFTs within their apps and games, all in order to improve the digital experiences offered to users and, at the same time, help developers expand their businesses.

On the new policies that Google's mobile app platform, Axie Infinity, one of the most popular blockchain play-to-earn games in the crypto industry, has implemented, he said that the technology and internet services company is moving towards the Empowering Web3 GamesGoogle’s decision to allow blockchain-based transactions represents a historic step forward in advancing player freedom, Axie Infinity said, highlighting that the future of digital gaming is rooted in the ownership and property rights that blockchain guarantees. 

This is not the first time that Google has updated its policies and conditions in favor of cryptocurrencies. In 2021, the internet giant lifted the ban on cryptocurrency ads in its web browser following an update to its Financial Products and Services policy.

Google has announced several recent partnerships related to the crypto/blockchain industry, such as with Voltage, which is focused on scaling the infrastructure of Bitcoin and its Lightning Network payment layer, or with PancakeSwap, with which it seeks to support the growth and development of the DeFi ecosystem. The Internet giant has also partnered with other major blockchain companies and ecosystems, such as Polygon Labs and Solana, in its commitment to new technologies and Web3.
