After an intensive and successful development phase, Filecoin announces the launch of its mainnet next month. With this launch, Filecoin takes a step forward towards the consolidation of network services, as well as its functionality, security and resistance.

The mainnet launch is a “long and complicated” process, as Filecoin noted in its release. However, this is a process that has been worked on in phases, being Mainnet Ignition the phase that precedes the long-awaited launch. According to the schedule Planned by the developers, the official launch of the mainnet will take place on October 15. Meanwhile, in the next two weeks, the Filecoin community, miners, clients, custodians, applications, network services and more, will be incorporated into the network before the main network is powered on and takes off.

The last phase before the network launch, Mainnet Ignition, aims to help participants learn how the network works, as well as give them enough time to get started with Filecoin and learn what its configurations and implementations are. This is an adaption phase for participants to learn how to configure and optimize their systems to ensure an incredible launch.

A network to buy and sell blockchain storage

Filecoin is a blockchain-based network that allows users to buy and sell data storage. This network has a cryptocurrency native filecoin call (FIL), with which the purchase and sale of storage is carried out.

Since its launch in 2017 to date, Filecoin hosts more than 500 storage miners, who make their storage capacity available to the network. Filecoin currently has 325 pebibytes (PiB) of storage capacity on the network, which is equal to about 340,7 million gigabytes. In the company's opinion, this is a sufficient amount of storage to store about "90 million 1080p movies, 1.400 complete copies of Wikipedia, or 7 times the entire written works of humanity (in all languages)." As we see, it is the largest decentralized and trustless storage network to date.

However, Filecoin's objectives, as expected, do not end here. With the Mainnet Ignition phase and the subsequent official launch of the mainnet, Filecoin will increase the number of available storage miners. Filecoin plans to expand its available storage capacity by adding many more nodes, while entering into thousands of storage and retrieval agreements in its community competition program. Slingshot

“Continue to add storage to the power grid, prepare operations for the core grid, and test storage and recovery arrangements.”

Successful development and progress

Filecoin was launched in August 2017, and in just 30 minutes, the project managed to raise over $200 million from investors through an initial coin offering (ICO). Currently, Filecoin has the support of more than 85 companies that actively collaborate with the project, and thousands of members who join the community. Filecoin Ignite. The 85 organizations support Filecoin in the development of new applications and developer tools, infrastructure improvements, and much more.

Likewise, the project recently announced the launch of a scam to Cloudflare y Ethereum as main partners. Drand is a service that provides publicly accessible randomness for use by third parties, incorporating characteristics of distributed networks into the randomness generation processes. With these and many other advances, Filecoin is positioned as a decentralized infrastructure where anyone can easily and actively participate as a provider of storage capacity in a market in constant demand and growth.

Lastly, Protocol Labs, the developer of the platform, also highlighted the incredible development and growth that Filecoin has experienced in the last 2 years. According to the developer, Filecoin has become an impressive digital infrastructure, which has even caused many other storage networks to join it as well. Now launching on the mainnet, Filecoin developers say the network will be able to begin a period of monitoring and troubleshooting, as well as solidify many avenues for the Filecoin community to get involved in network improvement and decision making. .

After the mainnet launch, the platform will celebrate Filecoin Mainnet Liftoff, a week full of extraordinary events, from October 19 to 23, so that the community can celebrate the arrival of the long-awaited Filecoin Mainnet launch.
