
Ethereum lead developer Tim Beiko confirmed significant progress on the Holesky testnet for the Pectra upgrade. On X, he explained that the upgrade has overcome timing and validation issues, and that mainnet deployment is still planned for early April.
Beiko, who is a key figure in Ethereum development, has released an update on the progress of the Pectra upgrade on the Holesky testnet. According to him, the network has improved its performance after a week of technical issues that included client configuration issues and difficulties synchronizing nodes.
Purpose-built for complex technical testing, Holesky serves as the final testbed for Pectra, an upgrade that seeks to improve scalability and validator management on Ethereum. This upgrade is tentatively scheduled to be deployed on the Ethereum mainnet in early April, provided testing is successfully concluded.

Some validators were not producing blocks consistently, and certain nodes were failing to properly sync with the main chain. However, according to Beiko, the teams resolved the issues in recent hours.

Validators now produce between 4-10 blocks per epoch, which is a 32-block cycle on Ethereum, indicating substantial improvement. Developers have prioritized reactivating as many nodes and validators as possible to simulate realistic mainnet conditions. Additionally, updated versions of clients such as Prysm, Teku, and Lighthouse have been released, with fixes to ensure proper synchronization on the testnet.

In parallel to the work on Holesky, Ethereum teams are apparently discussing possible delays to the Sepolia hard fork, another critical testnet in this blockchain ecosystem. Originally scheduled for March 5 and later confirmed for April 8, the Pectra upgrade could be postponed if Holesky requires more monitoring time. Beiko highlighted that consensus is being sought among developers so as not to overload technical resources while prioritizing Holesky.
Additionally, a new development network called pectra-devnet-7 is being set up, which will replicate the conditions of the mainnet, including a similar number of validators and tools to facilitate decentralized staking testing using DVT (distributed validation technology). This network will include a “faucet” for participants to acquire test ETH and perform manual transactions, Beiko explained.
All of these efforts are aimed at detecting potential vulnerabilities before the mainnet deployment scheduled for April.

The immediate plan to move forward with Pectra includes a thorough evaluation during the upcoming developer meeting and defining the exact date of deployment on the Sepolia network. According to Beiko, the status of clients will be reviewed to confirm their readiness. He also emphasized that although the schedule is tight, the time frame allows for adjustments without affecting the tentative April date for mainnet.
A key element will be community feedback. Validator pools and infrastructure operators are being invited to participate in this feedback, to discuss potential long-term mitigations to efficiently address issues similar to those encountered in Holesky in the future.
Thus, the Pectra upgrade on Ethereum is moving towards its final testing stage after overcoming technical hurdles on Holesky. The adjustments made and the creation of dedicated development networks reflect a meticulous approach to avoiding mainnet failures. It should not be forgotten that Beiko and the network development teams maintain a flexible schedule, prioritizing stability over fixed deadlines.
If the next few days confirm Holesky and Sepolia's solvency, Ethereum will be ready to implement Pectra in April, marking a key step in its roadmap towards a more efficient blockchain.
