Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has shared on social media the updated Ethereum roadmap for this year.
Buterin has presented an updated development roadmap for the Ethereum network as we head into the new year.
Although the co-founder of the blockchain network indicated that it is a roadmap quite similar to the one presented in 2023The new roadmap integrates important changes that focus on improving the security, scalability and decentralization of Ethereum, to consolidate the blockchain as a leading digital ecosystem for the creation and implementation of smart contracts, decentralized applications and other projects.
As concerns about Ethereum's centralization and scalability gain traction, Buterin highlighted that the network's new roadmap introduces a number of changes to address the current weaknesses of the Proof of Stake or PoS consensus mechanism, which the Ethereum network adopted in September 2022, following the successful deployment of the upgrade The Merge.
These roadmap changes, while minimal, will help address many of the weaknesses in Ethereum’s PoS design, Buterin noted.
Changes in the updated Ethereum roadmap
According to the co-founder of the blockchain network, the priority this year will be the concept of single slot purpose or single slot purpose (SSF), to improve network speed.
Ethereum aims to a faster speed to make blocks validated more efficiently, decreasing the finality waiting time, which is approximately 15 minutes, without affecting the security of transactions.
Other changes highlighted in the new network roadmap are related to the problems of economic centralization in Ethereum. Buterin highlighted that the future update The Scourge has been redesigned to address the challenges of centralization in the PoS model, in two key areas. The first of these has to do with the problems of miner extractable value or MEV; while the second, with the problems of stake pooling. These changes seek to make the distribution of profits on the blockchain more fair and equitable between validators and participants.
Buterin also shed light on the implementation of the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 4844, which integrates the scalability mechanism known as Proto-danksharding, which will make the blockchain faster and more scalable. The goal of this upgrade is to increase the number of transactions that Ethereum can process per second to around 100.0000 TPS.
Finally, Buterin noted that the development of Verkle's trees has made significant progress and these are getting closer to inclusion. According to the Ethereum Foundation, currently, the Verkle tree testnets are already up and running, but substantial pending updates are still required for clients to support them.
El Verkle tree will allow Ethereum clients to update nodes on the network without having to store large amounts of state data and without losing the ability to validate blocks.
Buterin sees a promising future for the network
The changes outlined by Buterin in Ethereum’s updated roadmap will not only strengthen the network’s security, performance, and decentralization, but will also help consolidate its leadership position in the increasingly competitive blockchain ecosystem.
On the other hand, both for Buterin and other experts, the future of Ethereum is full of positive expectations, which are supported by the current and future advances of the network.
As reported by this media, market analysts estimate that the price of Ethereum will rise to around $3.800 per ETH in the first half of this year, driven by the materialization of its development plans. Likewise, JPMorgan strategists are betting on significant growth in Ethereum, both in terms of the value of its cryptocurrency and network adoption, once the upcoming EIP-4844 or Proto-danksharding upgrade is implemented and other major developments reflected in its current roadmap come to fruition.
