Charles Hoskinson has announced on Twitter that Cardano's new era, Voltaire, is about to arrive and will make the network fully decentralized.
On September 22, the hard fork Vasil on Cardano. It is one of the biggest updates to the network, comparable to Alonzo, who introduced the ability to manage smart contracts In the net.
Vasil was one of the last stops in the so-called Basho era, focused on scalability and interoperability. With Vasil, Improves block creation and transaction management, as well as the ability of Plutus, Cardano's smart contract programming language, to evolve into Plutus V2.
Now, Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has explained on his Twitter account that the next era of the network, called Voltaire will arrive shortly.
What are Cardano Eras?
We could define Cardano eras as the different phases of blockchain development, that is, as stops of their roadmapEach of these eras takes the name of a representative figure in history.
Cardano's first era was called Byron, in honor of the famous poet. The second, Shelley, by the British writer, philosopher and poet. The third was named Goguen, named after the computer scientist and Oxford University professor.
The current era of Cardano, basho, named after a famous Japanese master poet, and as we've explained, focuses on improving network scaling. The next one, Voltaire, is named after the 17th century French poet, writer, and philosopher.
What will Cardano's Voltaire era look like?
Hoskinson explained that this is an era more focused on developers, builders and users. Voltaire will focus on improving Cardano governance and in the implementation of a decentralized system of government.
Hoskinson’s goal is for Voltaire to “show the rest of the crypto industry how a staking-based governance system should be implemented.”
Voltaire will implement the parts needed for the network to be completely independent. To this end, a voting and treasury system will be introduced that will allow users to participate in governance through the use of ADA staking.
The new era will also introduce a system for the community to have the ability to submit proposals for improvement which can be voted on by ADA holders, updating the current voting delegation system.
On the other hand, the treasury system they plan to introduce with Voltaire will send a portion of transaction fees to a pool, whose funds will be used to fund network developers and pay for any development activities arising from a governance proposal that has been voted on.
In this way, once the voting system and treasury are correctly implemented, Cardano will become a fully decentralized blockchain and will no longer depend on IOHK.
