Elon Musk changes his Twitter avatar to a Bored Apes collage and the minimum price rises to 10 ETH

It's surprising how much impact Elon Musk has by posting all kinds of messages on Twitter. In the past we've seen different examples of his power of influence supporting or criticizing cryptocurrencies like bitcoin or dogecoin. In this case, Elon Musk has surprised us on his Twitter account by posting a collage of Bored Apes made by the auction house Sotheby's to put 101 Bored Apes up for sale last year.

This has caused quite a stir in the NFT community, with several users claiming that Elon Musk changed his avatar photo to this collage simply to troll NFT owners. The fact is that since Wednesday, Musk's Twitter avatar has shown an image with a collage of Bored Apes with Ape 5809 placed in the center.

Bored Apes are highly prized by NFT collectors. They are such a popular alternative that when the company that supports them, Yuga Labs, launched its new NFT project, gas costs on Ethereum skyrocketed to thousands of dollars.

Whatever the case, Musk's action has caused quite a stir in the NFT community, with general impressions being debated between those who think that the Tesla owner has taken these screenshots to troll NFT owners and those who consider that Musk simply wanted to signal his intention to enter the world of NFTs.

Following this incident, Sotheby's co-head of digital art Michael Bouhanna quickly reacted by asking Elon Musk to remove the avatar that had been designed for sale at Sotheby's, implying that Musk had not acquired the NFTs.

The Tesla CEO then tweeted: “I don’t know… it seems a bit fungible,” causing quite a stir among his 90 million-plus followers. In this way, APE coin holders have initially seen the value of their tokens increase by up to 20 percent, with APE, used to vote on different community decisions and optimize other services within the BAYC ecosystem, rising to $17,60 from $14,40 this morning after Musk's avatar change.

Moreover, since the CEO updated his Twitter profile picture, more than 10 Bored Apes have been sold, increasing the minimum price by 10 ETH. The token later fell back to $15,90 after the aforementioned Tweet published by the Tesla CEO in which it was suspected that he was trolling NFT owners. Besides Musk, there are more celebrities who have at some point put Bored Ape photos on their Twitter profile pictures, such as the popular DJ Steve Aoki, which has undoubtedly contributed to generating great popularity in this NFT collection.

More times Elon Musk set trends

This is not the first time that the Tesla CEO's Twitter posts and actions have had a major impact worldwide. At the beginning of 2021, Musk changed his Twitter bio by adding #bitcoin and its value shot up by $5000 in just one hour.

Late last year, Musk posted a tweet featuring a figure resembling the Shiba Inu meme coin's mascot holding a rocket, and its price also shot up by more than 22 percent.

Similarly, the Dogecoin cryptocurrency has also seen moments of huge gains after the Tesla owner endorsed it on Twitter. In this case, it was enough for Musk to refer to Doge by stating that “Dogecoin is the people’s crypto” for its price to skyrocket.

There is no doubt that he is a reference character for investors and experts in the Crypto world, since just by changing his Twitter avatar, his biography or publishing a few words he is able to make prices fluctuate, create trends and cause a great impact in this universe.
