Spain is the fifth country with the highest number of cryptocurrency ATMs installed, according to data from the Coin ATM Radar platform.
Cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, have constituted one of the greatest technological innovations of all time, spreading significantly globally.
In recent years, the trading volume of these digital assets has increased significantly. In the case of Spain, home of the Bit2Me platform, the country's Central Bank reported more than €60.000 billion in cryptocurrency transactions last year.
The figures reveal the current interest of people in cryptoassets, which, due to their characteristics, simplify financial transactions, such as cross-border transfers and payments, as well as access to the financial system in general.
This rise and popularity of cryptoassets has been accompanied by ATMs.
202 cryptocurrency ATMs in Spain
In Spain, there are currently 202 cryptocurrency ATMs installed throughout the country.
This figure represents a 16,7% growth in the number of ATMs that existed in January of this year and a 33% increase compared to the number of ATMs installed in the country last June 2021, according to data from the Coin ATM Radar platform.
The monitoring platform also shows that it is the city of Barcelona has the largest number of cryptocurrency ATMs installed, with a total of 53 ATMs currently available.
They are followed by the city of Madrid, with 36 cryptocurrency ATMs installed within its jurisdiction and the cities of Valencia, Malaga y Palma de Mallorca, with 14 cryptocurrency ATMs each.
Other important cities, such as Seville, Alicante y Marbella, also have a significant number of crypto-asset ATMs, with a total of 10, 9 and 9 ATMs, respectively, according to the platform's data.
The number of cryptocurrency ATMs is growing worldwide
Globally, the number of cryptocurrency ATMs has also seen significant growth.
According to the platform, to date There are a total of 38.013 cryptocurrency ATMs installed around the world, the main locations being: United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Austria, with Spain in fifth place.
The United States, the country that leads Bitcoin mining by hash rate concentration, is also positioned as the region with the highest number of cryptocurrency ATMs installed.
According to the platform, the North American country represents 88,9% of the total number of crypto-asset ATMs that exist worldwide, while Spain only represents 0,53% of the global figure.
