eBay's goal is to bring NFTs to anyone, regardless of their crypto experience.
The leading e-commerce company, eBay, has officially launched its first NFT collection aimed at the general public. It is an experiment that seeks to bring collectibles and non-fungible tokens to any user, including those who have no experience in cryptocurrencies.
The collection went on sale yesterday, May 23, and is a series of animated images inspired by all the covers of Sports Illustrated who has starred in the NHL legend Wayne Gretzky.
The collection will feature four different degrees of rarity:
- Green, with 299 images.
- Gold, with 199 images.
- Platinum, with 99 images.
- Diamond, with 15 images.
In this sense, the Diamond, Platinum and Gold collections, which are priced at $1.500, $100 and $25 respectively, have been Sold out in less than 24 hours.
Unlike traditional NFT collections, the sale is done through eBay's own Web 2 platform and not on a blockchain marketplace, which has allowed payment in dollars. Buyers will receive an email with a link where they can Claim your NFTs.
The collection has been developed in collaboration with OneOf, a NFT marketplace focused on the environment, which supports multiple energy-efficient blockchains to create a sustainable NFT environment.
The NFT collection has been minted using the Ethereum scalability solution, Polygon. Users will be able to sell their NFTs on a secondary marketplace through OneOf, although for now secondary trading on the marketplace is residual. For now, only three platinum edition tokens are listed at a price of $199.

In fact, Wayne Gretzky's collection will be just the first in a series of NFT collections inspired by the athletes who have graced the covers of Sports Illustrated magazine.
