Cryptocurrency payments are coming to Despegar

📍‌Online travel agency Despegar is adding cryptocurrencies to its payment methods. Despegar, one of the largest online travel agencies in Latin America with 20 years in the market, is joining the cryptocurrency payments market to offer more and better options to its customers.

Despegar's general manager for Argentina and Uruguay, Paula Cristi, highlighted that cryptocurrencies allow the company to offer more modern and accessible alternatives for payments. For now, reservations and payments with cryptocurrencies on Despegar are available from its website or mobile application for users in Argentina.

This is one of the first use cases for crypto assets and has already been adopted by other travel agencies such as Booking, which in 2020 expressed its interest in the crypto industry by allowing its users to book with cryptocurrencies in more than 600.000 hotels.

BAR owners will choose the Barcelona captain's armband

📍‌Holders of the FC Barcelona BAR Fan Token can vote for one of the 3 designs of the captain's armband for El Clásico. Voting is carried out through the Socios.com platform, which develops fan tokens for the world's leading sports clubs. Through these tokens, holders can access exclusive benefits, such as access to locker rooms, photos with their favourite teams and, as in this case, the possibility of choosing the design of the armband that the Barcelona captain will wear in the Spanish classic.

Other sports clubs have allowed their fans, through Fan Tokens, to vote to choose their uniforms, among other benefits.

Interest rate hikes should be kept at 50 points, says Austrian central bank governor

📍‌Robert Holzmann has proposed that the European Central Bank follow Christine Lagarde's plan and raise interest rates by 50 basis points. Holzmann, governor of the Austrian National Bank and a member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank, made the remarks in an interview with the German economics daily Handelsblatt.

According to his statements, it is advisable for the ECB to maintain interest rate increases at 50 points for the next few months, according to the plan outlined by the entity's president, Christine Lagarde. In its latest move, the ECB reduced interest rates from 75 to 50 basis points, said Holzmann. "My idea is that we repeat this step several times, at least in the first half of the year," is the estimate of the governor of the Bank of Austria.

It is worth noting that, according to the media, Holzmann is the only one who has defended this plan, pointing out that the ECB must be aggressive if it wants to reduce inflation in the future.

Australia could regulate cryptocurrencies next year

📍‌Cryptocurrency regulation in Australia is unlikely to be ready for another year. This was reported by local media The Australian Financial Review citing internal documents from the country's Treasury Department. According to the media, the Australian government has delayed in passing a bill for this growing industry, which has left investors and users without adequate protection when participating in this market.

However, in mid-February, Stephen Jones, Australia's financial services minister and deputy treasurer, said the country was already working on developing a Legal framework for cryptocurrencies which will prioritize consumer protection while maintaining an innovative approach to take advantage of the potential opportunities offered by new technologies to revolutionize its financial services.
