Which countries have the most cryptocurrency owners?

A study by British financial magazine CoinJournal has revealed which countries have the largest number of cryptocurrency owners in the world. 

United States, Vietnam , Pakistan, Nigeria y South Africa top the list of the 10 countries with the largest number of cryptocurrency owners, according to a study published by the financial magazine CoinJournal. 

From Latin America, Brazil remains the leader of the list, occupying 6th place in the world ranking and number one in Latin America, with more than 16,6 million people holding crypto assets in this country.

Brazil is followed by Kenya, Philippines, Thailand e Indonesia as the countries with the largest number of cryptocurrency holders. These countries are ranked seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth in this ranking, according to the financial magazine. 

The study by CoinJournal was based on global cryptocurrency ownership rates by country and the percentage of the population involved in cryptocurrencies as of 2021, explained Benson Toti, author of the journal. 

How many cryptocurrencies do citizens of these countries own?

According to data consulted by CoinJournal, the 10 countries mentioned in this list add up to Approximately 169 million people own cryptocurrencies worldwide. 

The United States tops the list with more than 46 million people owning crypto assets in the country. 

On the other hand, the countries with the highest percentage of cryptocurrency owners in their population are Vietnam, with 20,27%; the United States, with 13,74%; and Kenya, with 11,60% of its citizens investing in cryptoassets. 

Despite the correction that the crypto market saw throughout 2022, cryptocurrencies seem to be the order of the day, both in developed economies such as the United States, and in those that are in the process of development. 

Asia and Africa lead crypto adoption

Cryptocurrency adoption is growing significantly in Asian and African countries. For example, last year the analysis firm Chainalysis highlighted that Crypto economy had grown by 1.200% in South Africa between 2021 and 2022Today, according to data from CoinJournal, this country located in southern Africa has almost 8 million inhabitants who own cryptocurrencies. 

Similarly, in Asian countries such as Vietnam, Pakistan and the Philippines, CoinJournal explained that there are several factors that have further favored the use and adoption of cryptocurrencies and digital assets, such as the lack of taxes or regulations that oversee the industry. 

In Africa, the high percentage of unbanked citizens, who do not have access to traditional financial services, see cryptocurrencies as a great alternative to access the economy.
