Cosmos is restructuring: it proposes increasing staking rewards to strengthen its security

The Cosmos network has officially begun a critical phase in its financial evolution with the announcement of a formal research process aimed at redesigning the economic architecture of the ATOM token.

Cosmos Labs has communicated to the community the need to abandon traditional inflationary mechanisms in order to adopt a sustainable system based on capturing real value through revenue and fees.

The initiative, presented as a governance proposal, arises as a response to the demand from investors and developers for a model that gives ATOM a clear and lasting financial benefit, beyond market speculation.

The plan presented establishes a rigorous roadmap that will begin shortly with a request for proposals from specialized research firms. The central objective is transform ATOM into a reserve, gas and liquidation asset that unifies the entire ecosystem, leaving behind the purely inflationary issuance dynamics that have characterized the network in its early years.

In summary, the proposal puts forward advanced concepts such as variable inflation linked to accumulated commissions and an incentive system that would progressively reward participants who keep their assets staked long-term.

Cosmos moves from circular tokenomics to an income-based economy

One of the highlights of the governance proposal is the explicit critique of the circular tokenomics models that have dominated the decentralized finance sector.

According to proposalMany current protocols rely on closed internal structures where scarcity is enforced through artificial token lock-ups to counteract constant issuance. These systems, while popular in the short term, risk collapsing if the price of the underlying asset begins to decline, creating what experts call a "reverse flywheel effect."

To avoid this fate, Cosmos' new strategy seeks to emulate revenue-based models, similar to those already being explored by platforms like Uniswap and zkSync. The premise is that ATOM's value should not depend on the financial engineering of its issuances, but rather on enterprise adoption and the actual use of the Cosmos Stack technology.

By linking the token economy to fees generated by services and applications, the network aims to build a resilient model where the money supply dynamically adapts to revenue growth, thus protecting the asset's value regardless of short-term market volatility.

The proposal in question includes the possibility of gradually increase rewards for the most loyal stakersUnlike the current model, which provides equal returns regardless of the time horizon, the new proposal suggests that those who commit their capital for extended periods receive a larger share of the profits. This would not only strengthen network security by ensuring stable capital but also align the interests of validators and delegators with the long-term health of the protocol, discouraging speculation.

Building the blockchain economy with transparency

The process of building a new blockchain-based economy is neither quick nor simple. Cosmos Labs has designed a multi-stage process that prioritizes transparency and community participation before writing a single line of code.

The initial phase includes the selection of between two and four external research firmschosen for their experience in protocol design and blockchain economics. The decision to involve multiple teams aims to ensure a diversity of methodologies and perspectives, preventing ATOM's future from depending on a single or biased vision.

In the following weeks, a rigorous data collectionThis includes in-depth interviews with validators, developers, and token holders to gain a thorough understanding of how they currently interact with the network. The selected teams will need to... simulate usage and stress scenarios to test the viability of the new theoretical models. This rigorous, evidence-based approach is key to minimizing risks and ensuring that the economic mechanisms introduced do not compromise the stability of the Hub.

This process reflects Cosmos Labs' commitment to careful and collaborative development, seeking to strengthen the ATOM network from a solid and validated foundation, rather than accelerating changes without proper verification. In this way, a responsible path is established for the evolution of the ecosystem, where the community and rigorous research become essential drivers.

The final decision will rest with the government.

Although the initiative is led by Cosmos Labs with the support of the Interchain Foundation, the implementation of any changes will ultimately depend on a community vote. Once the research firms submit their reports and the best ideas are synthesized into a unified model, A formal governance proposal will be presented for the network. This final step ensures that ATOM holders have the final say on the monetary policy that will govern their assets.

The community will be able to actively participate by reviewing the drafts and attending the public calls that will be organized starting in December.

The developers emphasized that this collective effort represents one of the most significant moments in Cosmos' history, as for the first time they are seeking to establish a direct and mathematical link between the technological success of blockchain interconnection and the economic value captured by its native token.
