A batch of 34 CryptoPunks NFT tokens was recently purchased for 557,5 ETH, equivalent to almost $1 million. 

The strange and original characters created by Larva Labs, known as Cryptopunks, form a series of 10.000 characters represented in the blockchain de Ethereum, in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), all one-of-a-kind, and were created as collectible tokens that Ethereum users could claim for free. However, the huge interest in NFTs last year has made these tokens become true collectibles of value, which collectors are willing to buy by paying sums of money that represent a fortune. 

As an example of this, recently, what is known as a whale in the digital world, has paid a total of 557,5 ETH to acquire a batch of 34 CryptoPunksThe purchase, which took place in just a few minutes on February 21, was worth the equivalent of $953.977 USD, almost $1 million, at the time of completion.

CryptoPunks, the first art and collectible pieces created on blockchain, are the first NFT tokens created on Ethereum and are pioneers of the modern CryptoArt movement. CryptoPunks are even on display as part of the exhibition Open Codes at the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, as “the first Non-Fungible Token for Ethereum, on the ERC-721 Standard, which powers most digital art and collectibles".

Bestsellers

In the newly purchased lot, the CryptoPunk 8383, also known as Mohawk Thin and the CryptoPunk 5018, called Frumpy Hair, are two of the most highly valued collectible tokens so far. The Mohawk Thin token sold for a total of 15,49 ETH, about $30.560 USD at the time of sale, while Frumpy Hair sold for a total of 14,88 ETH, equivalent to about $29.357 USD. These tokens are part of the 6.039 male punks that exist in the NFT project. 

On the other hand, at the end of January, the CryptoPunks 2890 token was sold for 605 ETH, equivalent to about $747.400 USD

This has been one of the largest CryptoPunk sales so far. CryptoPunk 2890 is a strange blue alien that is part of an exclusive 9-piece collection. One of its companions, token 7804, also an alien, is up for grabs. sale currently for no less than 1.500 ETH, or approximately $3 million.  

Also, the NFT platform CryptoSlam.io, shows that the CryptoPunk 6965, of the monkey genus with Fedora attributes, is sold recently for 800 ETH, about $1.545.929 USD. This token, which was sold 3 years ago for 4 ETH, has appreciated by 20.000% in the last 3 years. 

CryptoPunks on DEXs

CryptoPunks have become a piece of art of great importance in the digital world, and can now be found on DEX such as SushiSwap and Uniswap to serve as liquidity providers. The integration of CryptoPunks into the SushiSwap and Uniswap DEXs was done through the NFT index fund platform on Ethereum, NFTXThis platform allowed CryptoPunks to launch its first index fund on Uniswap in January, and more recently on SushiSwap, where users can create their own NFT-backed tokens and participate as liquidity providers. 

These DEXs already have pairs such as PUNK/ETH that can be exchanged on these platforms. To date, the PUNK token quotes at $127.368 USD currently, according to CoinGecko data, and has reached a value of over $178.000 USD per unit.  

NFT frenzy in the markets

There is a lot going on within the markets around NFTs. Since mid-2020, the number of artists dedicated to crypto art has grown considerably, and so has the offer of NFT products. 

Currently, this industry is dominated by video games, crypto art and collectibles, and also by sports, and even musical artists are joining this trend. In the world of sports, NFTs are grabbing all the attention with the platform NBA Top Shot, which ranks as the one with the highest volume and sales in the last month. NBA Top Shot is an NFT platform where basketball fans can buy, sell and exchange tokenized versions of the most iconic plays and moments of this sport and its athletes. 

In the past 30 days, NBA Top Shot has accomplished More than 154 millions of dollars in sales, and even more impressive, in the last 24 hours it has already exceeded 39 million dollars in trading volume. 

On the other hand, a collectible of the well-known soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo was sold for more than $100.000 USD on the fantasy football platform Sorare. As muestra website, Ronaldo's NFT was purchased for a total value of €83.910, equivalent to $101.998 USD as of today. 

Crypto art is also causing a frenzy in the markets. A user named “Pest Supply” opened an account on the NFT marketplace OpenSea, where he began bidding on NFTs of artworks supposedly in the style of Banksy, one of the most famous urban artists. Collectors went crazy for these pieces, and began paying large sums of money to the artist’s impersonator. “Pest Supply” achievement more than $1 million for the sale of his fake Banksy NFTs. At press time, OpenSea had suspended the impersonator's account.
