Cardano is the blockchain with the most development activity

Cardano's blockchain ecosystem topped the list of networks with the most development activity last month, recording a total of 572 events in GitHub repositories.

Blockchain statistics portal CryptoDep shows that the developers of the Cardano network, created by Charles Hoskinson, were the most active team in the blockchain industry during the month of September.

Cardano is one of the most fascinating blockchain projects out there today. Officially launched in 2017, this blockchain focuses on solving one of the main challenges of blockchain technology, scalability, in order to bring this technology to the masses.

Similarly, Cardano also focuses on the environmental sustainability of blockchain technology, making it a greener alternative to the early networks developed in the crypto industry.

However, despite its noble goals, Cardano has been criticized as one of the “slowest” developing blockchains since its official launch, and this is because the network is built in a scientific manner, based on peer review. As Hoskinson has explained, the scientific foundations on which Cardano is based will help ensure a highly secure, reliable, and efficient infrastructure and ecosystem for the issuance of digital assets and the construction of next-generation decentralized applications (DApps), which is why the network prioritizes security over speed in its rigorous construction process.

Still, last month, Cardano once again took the top spot as the blockchain with the most development activity recorded in GitHub code repositories, home to much of today's open source software creators.

Cardano, the most developed blockchain in 2021

This is not the first time that Cardano has topped the ranking of the most active blockchains on GitHub.

According to Santiment, this blockchain was the most developed in all of 2021 thanks to the traction generated by the Alonzo update, which introduced smart contracts and decentralized applications to the Cardano ecosystem. In December last year, Cardano led the same ranking with over 570 development events recorded in a one-month period, surpassing other popular blockchains such as Ethereum and Polkadot.

While Bitcoin and Ethereum are the protagonists of the first and second generation of blockchains, respectively, Cardano and other industry projects are currently competing to lead the third generation of blockchains.

Polkadot ranks second among the most developed networks in September, with a total of 501 development events recorded on GitHub. Chainlink, Hedera, and Cosmos rank third, fourth, and fifth respectively in this ranking, while other major blockchains such as Aptos, Avalanche, and Iota are further down the ranking.

In the second edition of the annual State of the Network's Developer Ecosystem Report, published at the end of September, the Cardano Foundation highlighted that the network is becoming an increasingly sustainable and robust open blockchain ecosystem and, as part of this open approach, it plans to soon launch more open source repositories.
