The Cardano blockchain is preparing for a new upgrade that will usher in the Voltaire era, which is focused on turning the network into a self-sustaining ecosystem governed by the crypto community.
As confirmed by Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Cardano, on social media, the next update to the blockchain will be Cardano Node v9.0This update, which could be implemented this month, prepares the network for the arrival of the Chang hard fork, which, in turn, will activate the Voltaire era.
In his post, Hoskinson highlighted that Chang’s implementation is now on the horizon, and that its launch will represent the biggest milestone in the history of the blockchain network.

The Voltaire era represents one of the most important final processes in the construction of Cardano, as it is loaded with new functionalities and features that imply the complete decentralization of the blockchain; that is, its separation from the Input Output Global (IOHK) company.
Voltaire will bring with it a voting system and community treasury, which network participants will be able to use to participate and influence the future development of the blockchain. In this era, which follows the Basho era, developers and the crypto community will be able to submit Cardano Improvement Proposals, which are formal technical documents that aim to implement technical changes and establish new standards that allow for the optimization of the use and operation of the chain. All of this for the benefit of users and the crypto community.
When this governance voting system and community treasury is implemented, then Cardano will be truly decentralized and will no longer be under the management of IOHK, according to Roadmap of the network.
