“Bitcoin” tops Google searches worldwide

Google searches for the term “Bitcoin” have historically coincided with rising market prices for the cryptocurrency.

The price of BTC has hit a new all-time high of $72.709,82, boosting search interest for the term “Bitcoin” on Google.

As seen in the data from Google Trends, Google's tool for knowing what people are searching for on the Internet, what the trends are and measuring the search interest for a particular topic, Bitcoin currently enjoys the highest popularity worldwide.

The Google Trends chart shows that the search term “Bitcoin” reached recently a score of 100, which is the highest on the platform and marks the peak of popularity of the cryptocurrency globally.

Although Google’s tool indicates that data on the search term “Bitcoin” on the Internet is incomplete, as of the date of this publication, it is indisputable how peaks of Internet users’ interest in the cryptocurrency tend to rise with the rise in the price of BTC.

At the time of writing this article, Bitcoin has reached a new all-time high or ATH price of $72.709,82.

The influence of BTC price on Bitcoin searches on the Internet

In January, in the days leading up to the approval of Bitcoin spot ETFs in the United States, search interest in the cryptocurrency skyrocketed, coinciding with the price surge experienced by BTC at the time.

According to Google Trends, netizen interest in Bitcoin rose by 80 points worldwide, while the price of Bitcoin also rose significantly, surpassing $46.500 per unit on January 10. This represented an increase of more than 10% in the price of BTC that same week.

Comparing the Bitcoin price chart with the cryptocurrency's search interest chart, You can see the correlation that exists between both metrics, and how search volumes about Bitcoin rise when the price of the cryptocurrency also rises.

But in addition to there being a correlation between the price and online searches for Bitcoin, a study published by the University of Cagliari (Italy), in 2023, pointed out that there was also a relationship between searching for “Bitcoin” on the Internet and the cryptocurrency’s exchange volumes, and that the latter tend to increase when people register a greater interest in BTC.

On the other hand, regarding the geographic location of netizens who are paying more attention to Bitcoin in the current bullish rally, Google Trends shows that they are El Salvador, Nigeria, Brazil, Switzerland y Netherlands the countries that report the highest frequency of searches for the term “Bitcoin” on the Internet.
