The Madrid City Council has launched a new proposal to strengthen technological innovation in Madrid and give visibility to entrepreneurs in the Blockchain and metaverse sectors in the face of the entire economic sector of this city.
In this way, the Madrid City Council has launched the first call for the “Blockchain and Advanced Technologies Awards 2022”, with which it seeks to serve as an incentive for technological startups that contain blockchain and metaverse in their business model, awarding the winners with 40000 euros.
Madrid City Council has announced that all startups and SMEs that offer solutions to the challenges proposed in the call for proposals using blockchain technology and other types of advanced technologies can apply for the award.
Projects that are eligible for the awards must be part of the categories established in the rules in order to participate. These categories are the following: energy certifications, energy in general including the environment and sustainable consumption, construction, entrepreneurship, including business models, sustainability certificates applicable to various sectors, smart contracts and the metaverse with collaborative models.

On the other hand, projects dealing with traceability in public administration documents, the metaverse for cities, universal identity and information exchange systems between operators and urban planners, with natural language processing and offering real-time responses, may also participate.
Startups and companies that meet the requirements set out in the rules will have until October 10 to fill out the forms and send all relevant documentation.
When evaluating the different projects, Madrid City Council will take into account the degree and form of application of advanced technologies or blockchain in relation to the challenge and of course the suitability of the solution provided by the companies to the selected challenge. It will also assess the technical quality of the content of each proposal, the potential of each of them in the technological market and the ease of their practical implementation.
Madrid City Council has also explained that this award seeks to give visibility to outstanding professionals and startups when it comes to proposing technological solutions based on disruptive technologies such as blockchain. In this way, the aim is to strengthen the technological innovation sector in the city and make the most valuable entrepreneurs visible.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that other Spanish municipalities have previously shown their interest in promoting blockchain technology. For example, Zaragoza City Council invested more than 18000 euros last year to support entrepreneurial projects in the city.
