The Arbitrum network is upgrading to the Nitro technology stack this Wednesday, August 31, to increase its scalability and process transactions more quickly and affordably.
Offchain Labs, the developer behind the Arbitrum One layer-one network that uses Optimistic Rollup technology to scale Ethereum, has confirmed that the sidechain will migrate to Nitro this Wednesday, August 31.
Arbitrum Nitro is One of the most important updates that will take place in Arbitrum One, in order to improve its scalability and performance, allowing its users the possibility of making faster transactions and with much lower commission rates than usual.
Nitro will also help Arbitrum One improve the experience it offers to developers, by significantly increase network scalabilityArbitrum Nitro implements Arbitrum AnyTrust technology, which will make the sidechain a more optimal network for the development of social and gaming applications.

Arbitrum Nitro technology was implemented on the Arbitrum network through a shadow fork last week, allowing developers to test the migration before its official arrival on mainnet.
Also last April, Offchain Labs launched Nitro on devnet to familiarize developers and network builders with this new technology. Nitro was also migrated to the Arbitrum Rinkeby testnet.
But what is Arbitrum Nitro?
Arbitrum Nitro is An update focused on exponentially scaling the Arbitrum network, increasing its network capacity and improving its performance to further reduce commission fees. The developers of this sidechain commented that while Arbitrum One is 90% to 95% cheaper than the Ethereum network, the Nitro technology stack will further reduce its costs, ensuring accessibility for all.
This technology will implement changes across the entire Optimistic Rollup stack by Arbitrum One, although these will not affect the user experience.
What can users expect with the arrival of Nitro?
In a blog post about Nitro, Offchain Labs developers explained that the changes and improvements that will be implemented in the network when migrating to this new technology stack will not affect the user experience. “All they will notice are lower rates, increased network capacity and a faster overall experience”, Offchain Labs wrote.
However, they did warn that at the time of the migration from Arbitrum One to Nitro, the network will experience a period of downtime lasting between 2-4 hours while the migration is completed.
Along the way, Arbitrum One developers faced several research and engineering challenges. However, they described building Arbitrum Nitro as “an incredible feat.”
The migration from Arbitrum One to Nitro is scheduled to begin this Wednesday, August 31, at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time (ET), as the network developers announced in a reminder published earlier this week.
