South Carolina Treasurer Takes More Interest in Bitcoin

📍‌Curtis Loftis, treasurer of the state of South Carolina, visited El Salvador to delve deeper into Bitcoin adoption. State Treasurer Curtis Loftis, a Bitcoin proponent, was in El Salvador alongside other officials and business leaders to explore the Latin American nation's adoption of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.

Loftis plans to discuss El Salvador’s experience with Bitcoin, especially the impact the market-leading cryptocurrency has had on financial inclusion and the remittance market, during the SC Blockchain conference, which runs through Friday, October 7.

It is not yet clear whether South Carolina has plans to adopt or implement Bitcoin, but the state treasurer assured that what the media reports about the “failure” of Bitcoin adoption in El Salvador does not match reality, since the cryptocurrency has served many Salvadorans and small unbanked businesses to access the financial system.

On the other hand, Loftis had shared on Twitter, at the end of September, the inauguration of a bitcoin mining center located in South Carolina. According to him, it was a multi-million dollar data center built by BV Power Alpha in Spartanburg County, which marks the official start of the state within the digital asset industry.
